I voted for Phoenicia because Ottomans sounds best for the last reveal (R&F was Shaka, a returning popular civ, if i'm not mistaken). However I've got some ideas about Ottomans.
UU: Janissary - a Musketman UU who can turn the unit it defeated into another Janissary (sorta like zombies).

Yep, this was my reasoning. Feels like they'll want to end with the Ottomans, so Phoenicia this week, Eleanor next week would be my guess.

Phoenicia. Cothon I'm sure will be cool. What I am concerned about is another unique ship unit. I really don't want that. My hope is for a cool UU that provides no combat bonuses but has a cool side bonus like the mandekalu with trade routes or legion with chops/forts

What I secretly really hope for is for Phoenicia to have NO UU but have some sort of bonus to buying military or being able to buy your allies UUs or maybe even some discount to buying units based on your trade routes to city states and/or other empires?

Does it make sense for Phonecia to have some kind of an initiative towards scientific victory? It would be weird only having a Swedish Great Scientist bonus and Incan mountain porn.

I'll wait to see if there are hints in tomorrow's Livestream. I'll be disappointed if there is no Civ reveal next week. What's the point of revealing the last leader the same week the expansion comes out? But if there is no Civ reveal, I can spend time playing the pre-R&F Civs on Emperor to get their timeline art for their uniques.

I'm wondering what the hint in the livestream might be. Something purple? A seashell? ABC's on the wall?

But how would they hint towards them during a Sweden livestream? Have the team sitting on a trireme all dressed in purple?
Any addition of purple where there hasn't been any before would say Phoenicia to me.

A ship unique is inevitable. It's Phoenicia. Ships are their thing.

Probably Trireme.

Wasn't there a ship of some sort in the leaked concept art? We haven't seen it revealed yet, have we?

I agree with a lot of the sentiment in this thread. I think they’ll save Ottomans for either last or next to because they’re a fan favorite and Eleanor for it as well because her dynamic is exciting in and of itself.

I personally think Phoenicia (Carthage) being introduced is extremely exciting, but I think people less obsessed with the game as I am may not care as much. Best to get a civ like that out earlier than later.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Eleanor came next though, Ottomans next would surprise me.

I vote for Phoenicia because their hype is not big as Ottomans - which should be last - and I think they will leave Eleanor in between the last new civs. I am hoping for Phoenicia because I am looking forward to an unique City Center district: it would not rule out the basic rule of one unique district per district kind we have until now, and could have some major drawbacks as some other civs from this next expansion. Right now, Maori and Mali have more unique gameplays, with major bonuses and some drawbacks, Inca a little bit. Hungary, Canada and Sweden are more "vanilla" civs, with more regular gameplay, without some major changes.

I think Phoenicia role should be a naval/trade civ, having the higher bias towards coast start and the Cothon being a unique replacement for the City Center, only buildable on land tiles close to coast. So, settlers couldn't settle new cities inland and that would be a huge drawback in game. But the Cothon would be stronger than the regular City Center and have some unique bonuses, maybe higher city health points or even being able to range fire before building walls and a couple other things. I don't know, but I hope for that unique gameplay they could make, which would fit Phoenicia both historically and thematically in game.

I don't have any strong reason to suspect anything. I'm going to say Ottomans in the hopes that they have a unique governor that interacts with features in a way they want to show off. But Phoenicia might have something that interacts with the mechanics in interesting ways. Perhaps the new trade route efficiency will be even better for Phoenicia.

Maybe the Cothon is actually a city center UD that has to be built adjacent to water, but give free TR and a boat on settling.
