What will be your first custom tribe?

In Civilization 1, the barbarian leader was also called Atilla, but there was no point in the game where you could meet him, so there was no stored picture for him and you never saw his name. It was possible to cheat and become the barbarians, thereby becoming attila. That's the only way to see his name. hehe.

YES! I just established an embassy this AM in GOTM 6 for the heck of it! It was cool. It said "Atilla the Hun of the Barbarians, 0 gold, despotism, and some other stuff too". But I could only read it once, because they won't show up under foreign minister.

I doubt you can talk to them though.

Oh, and then I bribed that city back into my control. It cost 50 gold and it was a size 9 city with improvements

Okay, I hesitated to unveil my fantasm but actually, I'd like to have a mongol horde tribe riding slim and fast hippos, and armed with bows. Now I doubt I'd be able to create such a tribe. I would have been invincible

Seriously I wonder why they've not thought about including the vietnamese tribes. We are terrific warriors after all...

Iroquois, how about the Blackfoot? I usually change the Sioux to the Blackfoot for a more Canadian connection.
<IMG SRC="http://www.uiowa.edu/~ainsp/images/SKULL.gif" border=0>
Actually, the Iroquis Nation is a Canadian based Indian Group. The Iroquis were made up of 5 tribes; the Mohowks, Oneidas, Onondagas, Cayugas, and Senecas. The Iroquois occupied a stretch of country from the Hudson River westward up the Mohawk, and across what is now the State of New York, nearly to the Niagara River.

Other Eastern Canadian Indian groups include the Hurons, and the Algonquin.

In western Canadian Indian groups include the fierce Sioux, the Assiniboels, the Crees, and the Chippewyans. Beyond the Rockies were numerous tribes which were collectively dubbed the Mongolians because of thier likeness to the Mongolians of northern Asia.

The Blackfoot controlled a vast region stretching from the North Saskatchewan River in Alberta to Yellowstone River of Montana, and from the Rocky Mountains to the Cypress Hills on the Alberta-Saskatchewan border. The term "Blackfoot" actually refers to three tribes -- the Blackfoot proper (Siksika), the Bloods (Kainai), and the Peigan (Pekuni).

Interesting question. I'm very excited about this "custom tribe" option myself. And as I'm hungarian, I think my very first custom tribe will be: the Huns, the people of the great Attila. (Although there is still debate on whether hungarians have any kind of connection to huns.)

There is no debate; the Hungarians are not related to the Huns at all. The whole Hungarians-Hun connection was invented in a 14th century chronical story, "Csodaszarvas". The Hungarians got stuck with the Hun name by occupying the former Hunnic territories of the Carpathian Basin - 400 years + after Attila's death. To Europeans, the Avars, Goths, Gepids, Alans, Magyars and all the other Steppe nomadic equestrian peoples were the same. The Huns, who originated in northern China as the Hsong-nu, spoke an Altaic/Turkic language. Hungarian is a Finno-Ugric language. Yes, Attila is a popular name in Hungary today, but that's due to romantic popularity and not any mystical ancestral connections. No serious historians today believe Anonymous' Hunnic fabrication. If it makes you feel better, a Ukrainian historian tried to claim that Attila was actually an Eastern Slav a couple years ago...

As for the tribes, I have already heavily customized all my tribes with the Tribe Editor. I can't imagine which tribe I'd choose first. I have a whole batch of personal favorites. My only comment is that I'd love a game with 16 customizable tribes playing....

My first custom tribe will be the Ancient and Esteemed Nation of Moderators.

When we first come into contact with other nations, we will politely but firmly insist that they remain peaceful and orderly within established borders. If that request is ignored, we will simply close down their culture and delete their miserable cities one by one.

Any relation between that idea and my current thoughts on the deteriorating nature of this thread may or may not be entirely coincidental.

Historical note: I don't believe the people of the 'Byzantine' Empire ever referred to themselves as such. That term was forced on them by the West (France & the Papacy), who controlled Rome and couldn't conceive of calling that remnant of Roman power 'Romania', which I think is the name the people of the East called themsleves (as in they still thought of themselves as the Roman Empire despite surviving 900 years after forever losing Roma).
