What would your local wonder be?

This castle is a beauty. I like creepy castles.
We also have a lot of creepy really old-looking and more or less ruined castles in the Czech Republic. But the Praque Castle is the biggest one in the world ;)
Like for example the Pernstejn Castle:

A big thumbs up for this post, these places look amazing, and could be a gold mine for Firaxis, for implementing them, or give some ideas!

Now then, local as in town local, probaly this:
Mirandaola:
Its a XVI century forge that runs with a water mill. It became somewhat of a religious place when one day after throwing about 20kg of ore to the fire, they only recovered a small, iron cross, which has been eversince shown as a centerpiece in the church chancel.
+2 Production +1 Culture +1 Faith to adjacent hills, increasing culture/tourism through eras. EDIT: Now that I think of it, it would make much more sense if this was the Basque equivalent for industrial zone with the Koreans Seowons bonus to farms and mines, because all the farming, mining, and crafting toolery were made in forges such as these. You can see them in some museums and local old restaurants where they have them exposed, pretty cool.

4.E.3.2.1.4.4-mirandaola-c91.jpg

Power up and forge working:

If we are talking about regional,some natural wonders, but I think the most popular would be;
The Flysch, or how you might know it, Dragonstone, home of the Targaryen
Im thinking it would fit with bonuses similar to those of Piopiotahi or Lysefjord

Zumaia+Flysch

What is the definition of "Castle," used here. Because the Versailles Palace, the Summer Palace in Saint Petersburg, the Sublime Port, the Apostolic Palace, the Official Residence of the Emir of Dubai, the Forbidden City, the Chrysanthenum Palace, and the Old Imperial Palace in Rio de Janeiro are definitely bigger, but maybe a "castle" and a "palace" are distinct by definition for records here.

A castle would surely imply that at least in some point in its history it was a military fortification, hence Windsor qualifying but not Versailles.

edit: even though both are currently used as and would be defined as palaces.
edit: although come to think of it none of the places you mention were fortifications in the least sense, they are all palaces and not castles.

Moderator Action: This thread is about what your local wonder would be. Please let us not derail it into definitions of wonder size or importance. Back to topic.

I currently live in Westminster which is a suburb of Denver, so I'll look at the city of Denver.
I'd go with the Denver Art Museum. It's a good art museum to visit, but just looking at it is pretty impressive.

It would likely give some sort of cultural reward and maybe would require being adjacent to mountains.

Now I'm originally from Karaganda, Kazakhstan. I would nominate the Cosmonaut Hotel from that city. It was where Cosmonauts stayed :) Also fun fact my family and I stayed there as well for some time before I became an American.
Unknown-2.jpg

Maybe it could do something to help with the space race projects?

That sounds spot on. I would definitely give it something like +100% production on the projects, or make each completed project be twice as effective, as in 2 lightyears extra speed per turn instead of 1

I live about an hour from West Baden Springs Motel. It's in West Baden Springs, IN, USA and I live in Evansville, IN. Can't think of anything closer that would be relevant.

I would have never thought to include a local wonder but after what happened recently, it's at least well known now.
TPC Plant

By the way I'm back and safe and we were able to have Thanksgiving yesterday.

I live kinda in the middle of nowhere, but I thought I'd do a couple wonders based on stuff that is SORTA close to me, that people would have heard of.

I live about 3 hours away from:

The Grand Ole Opry

Must be built adjacent to a Theatre Square
3 Great Works of Music slots
1 Great Musician point per turn
1 Gold
Great Musicians idle (Asleep) on this tile provide +5 gold per turn to their city

And I live about 3.5 hours away from:

The Indy 500

Must be built on flat land in a city with an Entertainment Complex
2 Culture
2 Tourism
2 Gold
Double Gold with Mass Media
Double Gold with Radio
Double Tourism with Professional Sports
Double Tourism with Flight
(So a max of 8 Tourism and 8 Gold with all 4)

I live about 3 hours from the Gateway Arch, and I know it's already been mentioned, but here's my version of it:

The Gateway Arch

Must be built adjacent to a river that the capital city is NOT adjacent to
2 Culture
1 Gold
1 Free settler
Settlers produced in this city have +1 move and +1 sight
Settlers cost 10% less to purchase with gold and faith in this city

Luton Hat Factory

  • +1 production to all wheat tiles in your empire.
  • +2 culture.
  • Once mass media is developed, +2 great work slots.
Requirements:
  • Must be built next to a industrial zone.
  • City must contain a workshop.
Once the hub for most of Europe's staw hats, now the building is a theatre and the main offices for the town's culture trust.

I am surrounded by castles, I suppose they are already represented by the unique improvement of Catherine de Medici (she lived in one of them):

Otherwise I also have a kind of leonardo's workshop (this is where he died):
chqgopnep2w4xli4g.jpg

For a natural wonder, I will choose the wellknown loire valley
b3sok43mup4onai4g.jpg

but the closest is this funny one:

the Petrifying caves of Savonnières

In Savonnières, underground seepage waters are extremely loaded with calcium carbonate. It is from the middle of the nineteenth century that man has managed to tame these active and abundant waters to develop an unusual craft which only nature is the instigator: Petrification. By an extraordinary alchemy the water, laden with limestone, slowly trickles over the objects deposited under the natural cascades and covers them with a calcite enriched with silica crystals which gives them a sparkling aspect. It takes about 1 year of patience to get a sufficient layer of calcite. Otherwise it is a banal cave with stalagmites, stalagtites and an underground lake.

Hello - here is Germany.
Not to much to mention in my area, but this is old....

Einhardsbasilika built from 824 - 827
Carolingian basilika

And grave stone:
„QVI SOLU(S) MISERV(M) MUNDAS DE CRIMINE SECLVM. QUEM TEGIT HEC PETRA IVBEAS EVADERE CVNCTA. MORTIS. SUPLICIA S(AN)C(T)IS ET VIUDERE PRESTA HIC QU…TIS FUERAT SP(IRITU).“

Probably give some faith and of course contains on relic (The legs of Pertus and Marcellinus)
Give relics extra Tourism
