What's a good strategy space game that's like star wars?

I want to play a 4x game that lets you play like the empire from star wars, and maybe even as a rebellion. Is Masters of Orion a good game? I want to play with a council, planet destroyer, fleets as well as ground troops. Also some sort of reputation system as well. Like for example if I destroy or ravage civilian planets, I'd like other planet populations to get mad at me for that. Any strategy game like that?

Afaik, nothing exactly like that. However, I've heard that Masters of Orion II is excellent, and Galactic Civilizations II is good too. My favourite space 4x TBS is Sword of the Stars, and there is plenty of "ravaging" (well, excessive genocide really) of enemy planets. There is also the RTS Sins of a Solar Empire which probably has a Star Wars mod.

I searched for the demos for all the games you mentioned lol. Sins of Solar Empire is completely real time so I wonder how that'll work with all the ships and planets to manage. Interesting.

I think GalCiv2 with the ToA expansion is about what you want. There is no turn-based tactical play, and most of the game is centered on raising the percentages of your race's abilities.

The MoO series is very good (EXCEPT FOR #3-----DO NOT BUY #3), but the diplomacy is a little weak in it, offset by turn-based tactical play. MoO2 is probably the best.

Check here and cross-link for a Scifi-setting.

Do you want to play a Star Wars game, or a game that is like Star Wars? If you want to play an actual Star Wars game, I recommend Empire at War.
