What's really wrong with profanity on TV?

I have yet to hear a good argument as to why profanity on television (and other media environments) is detrimental for the public and especially damaging for the younger generation. Is it a rule born out of (dated?) morals or is there some real, reasonable motive?

Because people don't want children to think that profanity is cool and they relate profanity to drugs, crime, and other assorted "immoral" acts.

No problem at all, as far as I'm concerned.
I also wonder why streaking is banned.

If someone called me a '****ing stupid ******** ****', I would be more insulted than if they had said something like a 'silly sausage'.

What people say on TV will rub off on those who watch it, especially the younger chaps.

But couldn't they make it look like its a bad thing? Well when i was younger none of that stuff made me inpolite etc :mischief:.

People still say stuff like "silly sausage"?

Profanity generally means words like the s-word or the f-word and varying degrees of nudity. Violence is in a diferent catagory, though it is also debatable how violence on TV really make youngsters more violent.

At best from what I can see (speaking wider than CFC) arguments against profanity are based on the slippery slope (profanity leads to immorality which leads to drugs and crime).

Oh and i see nothong wrong with having it on TV. People are just too restrictive on what their children see.

I don't think there's much wrong with it, but because it still has social stigmas attached to it, it shouldn't be shown to little children. I don't care if they think it's cool and use it, but, more likely, they'll use it as extreme insults to other children, which isn't the sort of thing you want happening.

As long as there are warnings to parents, I'm all for less regulation.

Streaking is banned to protect little boys' prides ;). And also for when a female streaker jogging around the park runs past them :mischief:.

Streaking is banned for the good of the public.

Mainly because seeing most people naked would be really, really bad for the public! :p (ever see those fat, hair guys on South American beaches wearing only dental floss? Multiply times 10 for the general public) *shudder*

That aswell ;).
