Heard it mentioned in connection with CFC on another forum, and not psitively. I don't recall encountering any oddities when I started posting- what's the story?

Sleep with one eye open - Nobody expects the newbie patrol!

No such thing around here.

Everyone is the same, if I catch somebody coping an attitude towards a new poster, they will wonder what fell on them.

Thanx AoA. In some forums on the net, “veteran” posters prey on newbies, and no mod’s seem to care. Nice to hear someone does…

Naw not really, there is about 110 pounds difference between us. I believe they know which.

I expect this is just a reference to the FAQ and newbie threads in Civ3 GD, nothing sinister.

Gossip to make CFC look bad...

The only time new posters run into any problem around here is if they come in with guns blazing. Otherwise, the veterans are generally very polite and helpful. The moderators are very accomodating and forgiving to new posters, at least at first. Infractions that would get a veteran banned net only a warning for newbies.

This is an easy place for newbies. I had no trouble when I was new.

Apart from the greeting "A newbie! Rape him! Rape him! " which was stolen from Scaevola, one does not 'mistreat' any newbies. Unless, of course, as Switch points out, they waltz on in believing they are the one and only font of truth and righteousness in the universe, and everyone else should grovel to their superior knowledge, at least until their parents tell them to get off the computer. In those cases, one takes joy at the new kettle of fish. :yeah: :ack:

It did take you 11 newbies before you realised it was a joke.

Probably in reference to Killer, Shabbaman and other 'helpful' souls in the Civ3 GD who in posting replies to newbies' simple questions, also tell them to post such future questions in the newbie questions thread. Idea is not to fill up the 1st pg of the GD subforum with threads like "What do you need to build a cavalry unit?" etc and push all the more interesting threads to the 2nd or 3rd pg. Used to be a major problem there.

gonzo had already made an announcement on the official response in regards to this in the Civ3 GD forum...

Shut up, you stupid fudgingg newbie. You have no right to talk to your superiors and elders in that manner. Shame, shame, shame.

:D Joke?

What backyard???

They converted it into an official newbie burial ground long time ago.

Hey I remember when I was a noo-bee EVERYONE here was nice to me, I have been to many sites that a noo-bee might ask a simple question and vultures with feelings of inferiority would swoop down and attack just so they could show everyone how intellegent they are. Anyway, that never happened here. It's just the opposite, now the Noo-bee's are flaming ME hahahaha

When I was a newbie as was the regular newbie from Hell, I managed to be banned 3 or 4 times.

I haven't been banned in months now
I guess I'm settling down ;)

The big rules for newbies are:
Stupid Newbies are fine
It's the mean ones who get punished

I am always happy to see new blood to distract me from you terrible cobweb-coated old fogeys that trawl the Off Topic!

Some of the little dears do come in and flame on as if they are still partaking in some saliva-flecked troll arena on MSN.
Such little scamps soon come to savour the steel fist of Greek or Cybernetic vengeance.

I have seen many newbies who are perfect and get with it quick.
Some like myself I will admit, acted without a care for my fellow man and was given a mild tempering or two into the right frame of mind...
The knack of debating without undue sauce comes with time, and maturity as a man.

An impetous new poster is like a good sword blade, he may have to be beaten into shape first.
:)
