What's the religion of Miriam Godwinson?

Yes, dude, you are living in the most unholy place in the world. About 77% of your country's population is ATHEIST!!! The bad ones not the good ones. I hate atheism since that Dawkins preached his false ideas. What I mean by the bad ones is that, to be more democratic, those atheists who want to eliminate ALL OF RELIGION!!!!!! Did you know that almost every religion calls atheism a sin???? The world is becoming... are you Luthernian???? Yes, your country has the largest population of atheists. For you to become more patriotic of your country, I recommend to move to an area of country with the most number of religious people. Unless you're under 18 or still studying for college.

Oh, the pirate guy maybe of Icelandic descent. But he's still born in the USA. Probably related to Bjork.

Well... first off... thanks for the "warm" and off-topic welcome... didn´t expect to be flamed on account for my nationality and for someones religious fanatism...

second... I am an Arian-christian and don´t follow any founded or existing church due to that the gnostic sect of Arian was destroyed by the catholic church in the following of the fall of the western roman empire... my beliefs is founded on the teachings of Jesus about loving and understanding between people regardless of race, sex and religious beliefs... I DON´T beleive in Jesus as gods son OR his resurrection, my beliefs are those of the teachings and not on the theology... yes, this might be heretic in many believers views, but what religion is right??? christianity itself has many hundreds of branches that each and everyone is saying theirs is the only right one....

My belief is to be a good human being and help my next in kin... to never pre-judge or use the weaker... in a sense I am a liberal-socialist with the christian humanitary teachings in my morals...

third... I am 30 years of age, studying in "college" (in sweden, we call it university) and my majors are History and Geography for teaching in "high-school" (gymnasium in sweden ages 15-18)... apart from this I see myself as pretty well educated in the history and society of the world (which help me in my civ-gaming :p) and in religious teachings of christianity, islam, judaism, hinduism, buddhism and shinto... I have some insight in pagan religions as Norse-mythology (thule), Slav, ancient greek/roman/middle eastern and asiatic...

fourth... I am married (in church) and my wife work in the swedish church...

fifth... your figures of "atheist-ratings" don´t have a source... how can I trust your word on those???? in fact... most of swedens inhabitants are members of the lutheranian church, just as Jerrymander points out (thanx for the support dude ;) ) and mayhaps we don´t tend to sunday services or practise activly the religion, most people in sweden have a belief of sorts...

I myself have friends from many different pantheons... sunni-islam, catholic, wicca, satanist, agnostic, norse thule, atheist and, like myself, arian-christian... I don´t see that any of them are more right than any other... in fact, the catholic is married to the wicca friend... ;)

our society in sweden is seculated from religion and we are free to build our own beliefs... you could say that we have "free-religion" in sweden (many happy faces there :p)

this entry was waaaaay off-topic and I beg every other fellow forumist pardon for this... As moderator in various other forums I know what kind of rules that apply to forums... and I know that this is a bad thing, and I hope that you don´t take offense...

so for some on-topic on SMACX....Miriam Godwinsson is probably amish :goodjob:

Yeah, don't pay attention to that guy. He gets a little overheated sometimes.

it´s okay... really... As a moderator at a free speech forum I have read many flaming posts.... some I presume would have been forbidden by law to print in some countries.... :D

but let´s try to get back on topic....

Atheists are not generally unholy, in the way you are describing it. Some are, some aren't. Yes, they don't believe in a god of any sort, but they don't all want to eradicate religion. Some do, but those are the ones who are vocal.
Darwin's (with an R) did not "preach", nor are his ideas false. Although they may not be true, they haven't been proven false.
I'm sure every religion would call atheism a sin - after all, don't the religions want you to believe in their own holiness? What kind of message would a religion that tolerated non-believing give?
I do not believe that you have the right to tell him how he can be more patriotic. I do not believe that religion has anything to do with patriotism.
Not every Icelandic person is related to Björk. In fact, I am willing to bet that most are not.

Your head needs to be taken out of your ass and you need to open your eyes, sir.

EDIT: Where did that 77% figure come from? The CIA Factbook says 87% of them are Lutheran.

Didn't you heard the news????? There is a guy named Richard Dawkins who is irritatingly an anti-religion atheist. I think that Darwin's ideas are true but not Richard Dawkins's ideas. You're confusewd with Dawkins & Darwin. Darwin believed in God but in a different way. Dawkins is an evil incarnite who I want to eliminate on this planet. Research "Richard Dawkins" in Wikipedia. Just don't read his beliefs or his book. You might be converted easily to atheism.
Oh, and please, don't swear. I'm only 12.

Look at this website:

This is a map of countries who think religion is very important.
Plus, it's okay to be secular. Just don't be too over secular. Like the U.S.A., they have a feast day of a saint asd their national holiday, & their country's secular. Secularism is not a sin. Atheism is. Sister Miriam is not Amish. She loves technology but not secular technology. I heard that she's evangelican.
I wonder why Protestants do not say anything about Jesus? He is the Son of God. DUH!!!!!

Do I hear Catholic education talking through an overzealous child (technically, I'm still a child) who can't bother to get his facts straight?

Unless you're a character, I suggest you wise up before continuing.

okay... first off... wikipedia as a source is very doubtful because that every person that registers may alter the information on the site... I have at one particular time read on the topic of kites that it was a gift from an alien race as a thank you to the chinese people for giving them fuel...

and the maps you posted... one doesn´t show what kind of poll it depicts... and where the source comes from or what the basis is for this result... how many people where asked for instance...? the other says quite clearly about the importance of religion... but sweden (and many other states) is gray... and the scale don´t have any gray alternatives... this makes me wonder if gray should be treated as "no info available"...

but sure enough... the link provided shows a lot of sources, even though I find the numbers "46%-85%" a little to broad for my definition of "good source"... as I stated earlier... on what basis does these figures come from??? ten people??? a thousand people??? how many goes to church on sundays???

And I promise you... protestants do say a lot about Jesus... but I do not believe in his divinity... just in his humane message... therefor I am more of an Arian than that of a true protestant christian...

and lastly.... I am still not sure what your after here... the topic is about what kind of religion a certain faction was following... this kind of discussion is based on personal experiences with the game and IRL religion... and it is not, I repeat NOT, a topic that should focus on whether a certain IRL country is atheist or a certain religios belief or a particular ideology is more or less correct...

I find your flaming provocative and out of place... I have read all my posts and can´t see anything that justifice this attack on me as a swede or my person... even though you are 12 (great vocabulary by the way) as you claim, some common sense and etiquett might be in place...

I can´t speak out for a whole nation of people, as less that you can speak out for all believers in the world, and that´s why my posts only reflects my own opinions and personal experiences... I have my personal beliefs and convictions... I live in a relationship where my wife works for the church of sweden... I have deep theological discussions with friends and fellow students with basis on both history, social structures and philosophy... all this makes me certain that I have a great deal of experience on the topic... you however seems to try and "over-convince" me of my sinful heritage in a most peculiar way... what are you after here???

and as a final note.... please respect your fellow humans... don´t generalise a person based on nationality... I just wanted to join what I thought was an interesting discussion... not get flamed in the same message as my very first welcome...

peace...

PS: the entry about Miriam being amish was a joke.... but aparently the smiley didn´t tip you off at all....

I agree nothing justified an attack on you.

You might find the tone at apolyton.net more to your liking. Recently a newcomer to SMAC asked for advice about playing Morgan and eight veterans engaged him in an extended discussion.

thanx for the tip... I don´t want to give up this forum yet due to one individual... it´s a great forum IMHO.... but I mayhap check that one out if this continues.... :mischief:

I meant to say "I'm still a child, too." Anyway.
Why?

Civ4luvah2484's most blaring wrongness in his assessment of Sweden is that he equated "does not find religion important" to "does not believe in God."

I agree with you.

I found your statement well worded and funny.

Civ4, we appreciate that you are 12 and that you believe what you believe, but what you're doing is called 'flaming' and you're very lucky if you haven't been reported yet.

Just chill out.

And, for the record, I think it's pretty standard for most religions to call any other system of belief a sin. For example, you expect that, since others think Atheism is a sin, that should hold some weight. However, Muslims believe that there is a Hell just for Christians. But I get the feeling that doesn't sway your beliefs.

The question is, then, if someone believes Atheism is a sin, why should that mean anything?

Hi everyone,

It occurred to me one day that Sister Miram Godwinson was pretty close to Marianne Williamson, who is a kind of New Age figure.... New Age might be the new conservatism by the time of Alpha Centauri. :)

Did anyone else think Sister MG might be based on MW, or is it just me?

Wendy

They're hardly similar. Williamson is pacifist and adaptive, Godwinson is militarist and hard-line. I doubt they'd get along.

Right, I didn't mean to suggest that I thought they were similar, but that the developers may have intended that.

I went to her church in Michigan for over a year (till she left). I still miss her.

Oh, and please, don't swear. I'm only 12.

For the record, ass is not a swear word in the sense I was using it. I was alluding to the breed of mule that is stubborn and not very keen.

You, good sir, need to take a step out from under the Holy Bible and experience the real world.

@ Scott: Yes, that's true. He may believe that Dawkins's lack of faith is a sin, but Dawkins doesn't even believe in sin. So the question remains, who is getting played the joke?

I don't think Meier or any of the game designers had a particular religion in mind when they created Godwinson, but her last name and racial background scream Christianity.
