I know ... "screenshot or it didn't happen" ... but:

I got Literature last night from a hut.

So that got me thinking, what's the biggest tech you've ever received from a goodie hut?

astronomy i saw once

I think astronomy is the best tech you can get, and I got it once. :D

I think I've gotten Monarchy before, but I can't remember. Most goodie huts are gone by the classical age anyway.

I was going to say that's a good thing for a Terra map (huts in the new world are the latest shot) but you need Astronomy to get there with an offensive unit (they tend to have barb units guarding them before you get there). I think Mathematics or Metal Casting is the latest one I may have seen from a goodie hut, but that's only based on vague memory (possibly faulty). I know it started with a M.

Most beakers: Metal Casting, I think. Like a free Oracle, except I didn't have to research Poly-Priest, and I didn't have to worry about Great Prophet points screwing up my GSs.

Biggest impact: Iron Working or Horseback Riding. Suddenly gaining the ability on offence? Priceless.

peace,
lilnev

No way you got Astronomy ...

You can get following techs ...
Fishing
Sailing
Calendar
Masonry
Mining
Mysticism
Bronze Working
Iron Working
Agriculture
Hunting
Animal husbandry
Pottery
Metal Casting
Mathematics
Writing
Construction
Currency
Monarchy

no religion techs, no Alphabet.

i've popped metalcasting and just about jumped for joy.

i got Music from a hut once, that's probably your M, Stolen Rutters. that was kind of my "biggest bonus" hut, since i also got the free Great Artist, he popped up in my capital! i thought that one was too late in the game to get from a hut so i was pretty happy, especially at being first :)

check your hard drive ;)

maybe the chances rising later in the game would be a bonus, considering that you're likely exploring "overseas"? *giggle*. i doubt it's coded that way, probably just that they stick out in our mind, since it's not often we find many late huts.

On second thought, maybe it wasn't Monarchy, but Music I got. Again, I forget, things like that happen once in a blue moon.

the best one is iron working after you have just got AH and BW and discovered that you have no bronze or horses for miles around. then the iron pops up in your capital's fat cross. fun fun fun!!

It really depends on when you pop the hut. Popping Bronze Working in 3900 BC is useful, but so is Monarchy in 1000 BC. But Monarchy in 3900 BC is less useful, and vice versa.

I got Literature. And Metal Casting, but they're both been said already. :[

I popped Astronomy from a hut once on Vanilla, so it is possible... not sure about Warlords tho.

The time I popped mining, bronze working and iron working in rapid succession at the very beginning of a marathon game was the last time I played with huts on. Thats just too ridiculous a start in my opinion.

I did that playing as Julius - and I had iron in my fat cross. Needless to say, that was an extremely easy (and fast) game to play.

One time I got mysticism, wheel, bronze work, ironwork, animal husbandry, horse-riding six techs in a row at the very beginning. My advanced units quickly wipe out my neighbours from the planet very quickly.
