What's your Field of expertise?

Structural steel

Now where were you when me and Xenocrates were debating the WTC collapse? ;)

My expertise is mostly in debunking conspiracy theories, mostly JFK and 9/11. I'm not an expert in any specific aspect, just passionate about researching enough aspects to shoot down most of their arguments.

Other than that, I'm no expert, but sometimes debate other topics from the viewpoint of my life experiences.

It was really a jab since Ram seems to be dissatisfied with his work so he created entire philosophical subject how one find himself more from play than from work.
While I try to stress the issue of combining them.

There was a thread couple of months ago where Fifty was also talking about various methods.
It really depends what you are looking for. (what kind of trouble)

You can pick up the some well known stuff, but I would try to learn grappling skills, Jiujiitsu comes to mind, Krav Maga is quite practical one too.

Yeah, I remember. I probably should quit asking and just find a class and take it. Only thing is I've been moving around alot lately (and will probably move again after the school year is up).

Yeah, those seems to come up alot. I have a fear of being pinned down (kind of like claustriphobia but stronger) so developing strong grappling skills will probably help me conquer that. :)

Thanks. What do you study personally?

Funny you should ask :)
Our company took part on investigating the collapse of those two towers (I wasn't part of that team though). And after all the evidence we got from the events, the conclusion was that the colliding planes could have caused enough damage to collapse the two towers:
- the flames softened the supporters of the horizontal slabs
- when the slab supports gave up, the free column height was doubled (in the walls)
- this increase in column height caused buckling, which led to the collapse of the towers

But nobody really can say if those planes actually caused the destruction.

Kind of guessed that since it's about chess after all. That's why I asked and of course since it's you in the question ;)

That sucks when it comes practicing martial arts.
But I would recommend to take anything that even mildly interests and after a while move into another course if it isn't for you.
You have to learn to know your body just like in Yoga and also your opponents body.
If you know the basics then it's easier later to take anything. Also of course I recommend that it helps being in shape but that isn't probably your problem.

Yeah, quite often you can be even as amateur able to block punches but when the opponent start grappling you it's nice to know how to get around especially such opponent that has strenght or just plain mass advantage.

But if you ask me, the study of self-defence starts from your eyes, your head, your feet and your mouth. It's how you percept your enviroment, know where to go and how to move and how to speak to people.

After a while you will notice how things could happen in real life and you start to recognise signs when to be ready.

You're welcome.
Unfortunately currently nothing. I'm looking for a course which has good teacher. In Finland it's kind of hard since options are rather limited. I would like to mostly study practical implications rather than fancy martial arts. But I do practice with friend of mine (who's kind of all around kind when it comes to these things) with some methods that I have learned. When you keep certain things in your schedule and keep yourself in shape, you know that you are ready.

As said pick something up, some short course example and you will see how it goes from there.

I'm a hell of an engineer!

I consider myself well-versed in American history.
I don't know much at all about music theory, but I like playing the harmonica.
I am also an expert at taking returns at a retail store without swearing at the customers and my boss. That took the most work.

I know a thing or two about welding and metallurgy but I'm in no means an expert.

For me i would say troubleshooting and fixing computers, world history, and video games.
