Reno said:My full name is Martti Taneli Palmén (The é is officially in there, not something that I added), although I'm always been called Taneli (I never liked the name Martti). Martti is the Finnish form of Marty (sp?), and Taneli is the Finnish form of Daniel.
Palmén (Meaning Palm tree in German) on the otherhand is not Finnish at all, the name comes (To the best of our family research) from Joachim Kempe who moved to Turku from Germany in the late 18th century, to become a carpenter in the castle of Turku (Turun Linna). The Swedish army gave him the lastname Palmén to replace the name Kempe.
I still dread at the thought that my grandmother wanted me named as Joachim.![]()

I work in a bilingual environment and I always find it interesting to hear the very subtle differences between the french and english pronounciation. Stéve in french and Steeve in english.
My last name will remain private. There's a college in the Montreal area, a major Montreal street and a metro station named after one of my relatives. Not to hard to find out for locals I guess, but they don't scare me.![]()
