Whoa! I've never talked to anybody who ever used OS/2. I almost thought the whole thing was a hoax

Yeah, the hoax turned out to be IBM's claim to have effective marketing at the time. The system itself rocked, and Microsoft had nothing to touch it, in my opinion until at least Windows 2000. Actually, now that I think on it, I may well have browsed the web with OS/2 2.1 as well. I don't recall now which one I did it with first.

In my early 20s, connecting on a system that shortly got consumed by AOL, 1992 I think. Before that in the mid-late 80s I was frequenting a few dial-up BBSs though.

Sidenote: does AOL really count as the Internet?

At the time, AOL was just an "Online Service Provider", though I do believe they, like Compuserve did, have email capability with other internet domains. They had their own content, games, and so forth. Think "BBS" on a huge, freaking massive scale, but not Internet at the time.

I briefly tried out Prodigy and had quite a successful run as CEO of "AI Computers" in one of their online games.

I was 20 and when my brother got a modem I was all like free porn? no friggin way? dang!

I remember my brother and his friends had a competetion going. The goal was, the first person to gather 1 gig of porn would win. It was quite an accomplishment back in the 56k modem days.

I would say middle school. My first time ever using a computer (outside of school) was in seventh grade('97), I think, and I had my own PC at the end of 1998 or 1999 (which would be eighth/ninth grade). I do remember the first time I ever got online with my first PC.

hah, 1998? I got broadband in 1998 (maybe it was -99). My first time on the intraweb was 1994. Guess that makes me like 17 years old, not 20 as I thought.

We didn't have broadband access in my area until 2003.

I know, neither did most people in europe, Years after I had broadband, most people in england and germany and other big rich western european countries still didnt have broadband for some reason. Which meant that I kicked their ass in Counter Strike!
