CivIII, bought the game a month or so ago. :)

Civ1, technically. My computers back then were out of date so I didn't play much. I really wasn't hard core until Civ3.

Although I first got hooked on Civ 2 by playing it for a weekend in college, I banned myself from it, as I feared that I would never sleep again if I didn't. After getting some major projects completed, I allowed myself to become a CivFanatic last September, finally opening Civ 3, which I had purchased on its release date in November 2001. It sure has been great!

For me I have beel playing Civ I with my cousin, way back in the '90s, yes on the magnifisant Amiga! He's coming over again this weekend, to play Civ III... :D You all have a great weekend!

Got me copy of Civ II just as a coincidence! My dad brought home a cd full of ...erm... software from a friend. Yeah, thats what it was. Software. NOT pirated warez... erm... :p

...Anyway, so I by accident found a catalogue saying "Civ2". I started it, just out of curiousity, and here I sit, six years later!
...Again, my first meeting with SMAC was at a ...warez... site (I know, I am a very bad person!), and since it was the game with the least probability to break my 33,6k modem, I downloaded it (50mb). Also this time an "accident". Strange.. :)

BUT! Civilization 3 I got from my dad, three years ago (or is it two?), for juul (I refuse to call it "Christmas"!), and as soon as PTW came out I bought that legally. So now I am just saving money to buy Conquests... :D

I first played Civ on my 16 birthday. It was a gift i got with the computer. In 3 days i'll be 24, so it's been 8 full years. Civ, Civ II & III and some SMAC. Despite what my parents say, i think it made me a nice, helthy young megalomaniac.

Started with Civ 2. I got Civ 3 and PTW as soon as each were released. Now that I'm a fanatic I'll get Conquests right away too. Now I just need a time machine so that I can play more. I guess I better set research to 100%.

My dad bought Civilisation I in '90 or '91, whenever it came out.
I would watch him and my big brother play it, and decided to give it a go(i'm not sure if I decided, or was encouraged). I was young at the time. I've been hooked ever since :D

Started gaming in 1987. There was a game by the name of Empire back then. Sea battle was fun for that one.

:) Me too!
Empire was probably the first strategy game I started playing in the late '80s (IIRC the copyright for that game was mentioned on the starting screen: early '80s!! ).
Like civ, Empire was turn based. Starting with one city where you could produce (*only*) different kind of military units, you had to capture neutral (or enemy) cities and could produce more stuff there (all cities were pre-made on a given map - no settling, worker action or city improving). Later, I purchased an improved version for DOS systems ("Empire de Luxe" or something) that had some additional features and really enjoyed MP games. I'd say that the somewhat *simple* game concept can easily compete with today's standarts. Well, not true for its graphics of course... ;)

Started the civ series with civ"1", as I stated in a similar thread /poll in Civ1 Gen. (I even partly remember my first game).

Got Civ1 for Christmas '93 on our Atari 1040 STE, played it a lot the next years. Then got Civ2 with scenario CDs in April '98, played it a lot again. Then bought CTP, but almost didn't play it, I wasn't hooked. Then I heard of this forum in 2001, but because of our old computer, didn't buy Civ3 before last Christmas (with PTW). Started to play PTW in February on my new computer, and became a CivFanatic in March. Got tons of problem trying to play GOTM the next months (but now it's OK), and eventually heard of RBCiv. Never got SMAC (I wish I played this one).

Startet with civ2, used to watch my uncle play civ1 when it was new, but was to young to play it then.

I started with Civilization 3. At that time, I just wanted to see how fun it was. I had no idea what I was in for!!! :D :D :D

I first encountered the Civ series by accident. I was at my uncles house, and he had a copy of CivII for the Playstation. I saw him playing that, and was like man I gotta have that. I then got on the internet, and looked for Civilization. I found out that a newer version called CivIII was out, so I saved up some money, and bought a copy of that. I've been playing it for about a year now [dance]

Back in 1997, I went looking for a game called Colonization because I heard it was good. Found a bargain bin CD with Colonization, and this other game, Civilization, on it. My kids liked Colonization, but I thought Civilization was way cooler. Then I found Civ 2 and got that. Got Civ 3 the day after it came out. :)
