When do you switch to Republic?

I switch as soon as I gt it. I agree with Sirp and Brewster, the benefits are awesome. Once I get it, I try not to switch. The only time I ever change is when I am at war for hundreds of years non stop. Otherwise the warweariness can easily be dealt with.

Here, too, almost always ASAP.

Exceptions:
- when I know my economy will be utterly trashed by switching (pretty rare now that I've gotten better at handling worker tasks -- the worst that ever happens nowadays is a temporary loss of a few gpt that goes away as soon as the first couple of markets complete)

- when I'm about to finish an important build

- when I'm in the middle of a war where I've been taking heavy losses; in that case, I'll wait until the war is over before revolting

In a few instances I'll go straight for monarchy and stay there, too.

- If I'm going to be at war *all* the time.
- Occasionally if I'm playing for a 20K victory. For that victory type, speed of attaining techs past education is fairly unimportant, and having the ability to use an extra MP in the 20K city (which typically goes to size 12 far ahead of any of my other cities) can be useful for a long time. My main criteria for government switch for 20K, though, is just which of Republic and Monarchy comes available first; either is workable, but I generally want one or the other in time to cash rush most of my cultural buildings.

if im building a wonder or im at war, i will wait to switch. otherwise i switch as soon as i gain the tech.

I always go for republic, and will switch immedietly (unless I'm, for example, gettin' the GL in 2 turns). Republic is nice, because the WW is so easy to cope with if you have a handful of luxuries, temples/cathedrals, and don't lose wars! Afterwards, I'll gradually make my way to democracy and switch instantly too. The faster workers, less corruption, and overall cash bonus is fantastic, and the WW isn't too bad there either.

Oh, and I've never even considered switching to Monarchy or Communism, WW just isn't that bad, unless you are in perpetual war, which I never am.

ASAP - and simply use the luxury slider if you don't have enough native luxes an/or infrastructure. This may occasionally slow down the development of outlying and corrupt cities, but your core will really benefit. The lower corruption and higher growth means marketplaces will ccome online faster too.
