Sorry if this is a stupid question but im kinda new to the game and im already around turn 180-220 (cant remember exactly) but im still stuck in the Renaissance Era just like the other Civs at the moment. Im wondering about this because i have a social policy to spend and i wanted to spend it on the Industrial era but its still locked.

So basically i just want to know when/how does an Era change?

Thanks in advance :)

When you research any tech that is in the next era, you advance to that era. If you look in the tech tree, each era (they're titled at the top of the screen) covers several columns of techs.

Does your money (income) progress as you move through the eras?

I was broke for most of a game then i got to Modern era and my gold per turn shot up?

Is there a strategy for getting to an Era ASAP so you can get lots of gold???

On the contrary, the further u get the more does ur military support cost you. Except for that and the maintanaince of roads what usually kills the budget is that you build a lot of building you dont really need.

The only (effective) way to get money is by working tiles (improved by markets, banks and stock exchanges) and by selling ressources to other nations.

going to the next era has the effects:

- new social policy,
- more city state bonus.
- more units maintainance cost
- more research agreement cost.

The game is designed so that you have huge production and population increase on Industrial era, particularly Steam Engine and Railroad. It is often the first 2 Industrial tech I get to get the most of Industrial Era early.

This depends on game turn, not era.
Even if you stayed in the ancient era forever, eventually your warriors would start to cost you more and more.

This is false.

Your trade income from having large cities can be *very* large. Its currently 1.25 gold per population point per turn for each city you have connected to your capital.

However, era advance does not directly affect gold income.
