When does the game end?

I finally was able to eliminate all of the civilizations on the Prince level, thanks to the advice given here! I did this in about 2012 or so. Is that it, does the game just keep going, what year does it stop? I also was building a space ship, but was shooting for the "wipe out" of the other civilizations as my goal. Please let me know if I'm missing something here? Thanks

When you kill off the last civilization, you should get a message saying that they are now dead. If you end your turn, you should get a summary of what Civilizations were killed and when. Then the game gives you your score. It will then ask you if you want to keep playing (without keeping score) or end the game. If you selected continue playing, it will keep going.

Otherwise, the game can end when your spaceship lands or 2020 AD.

And if that doesn't happen, there's likely some obscure little city or wandering settler about (especially if you didn't turn off the re-appearing of dead civs).

In any case, 2020 is the last possible year of a game. That is, if you don't eliminate all opponents/land a spaceship before then, the game just ends and you get to see the graph and score.

Won it, just in time, 2018, I'm playing Prince level 1 more time to try and figure out my strategy a bit more, then onto King! Thanks again for the help.

Can't you play even longer, without score of course? I think I remember continuing playing in the beginning after I had reached 2020, but that was some time ago.

The game will ask you if you want to stop or continue playing without keeping score.

Along the same subject of end game, can one edit the time the game ends from 2020 to later date?

I'm not sure. I wouldn't think so. All difficulty levels end the scoring portion of the game @ 2020AD. They just give you more turns at lower difficulty levels by changing the amount of years between turns. I'm not an 'analyzer' of the game mechanics, so maybe someone else knows for certain.

Isn't it possible to change the start and end year in the cheat menu. It's used when you build scenarios, but I'm not totally sure since I never build scenarios.
