I have played a few games, and each time I have founded a religion. I am just wondering what it takes for other civs to convert to your religion?? I understand that the ones who founded another religion wouldn't want to convert, but what about the other ones?

In order to convert, they must have at least one city with the religion. When a civ has no religion at all, getting a single city to convert to a religion is enough to get the civ leader to convert. So early on, all you really have to do is get an open borders treaty and send a single missionary.

Once they have adopted a religion, it gets more complicated. I don't know all that goes into it, but if you convert most or all of their cities, you have a reasonable chance to get the leader to adopt your religion.

Every city with the state religion get 1 happy face. So the AI (like the human player) will choose the religion that will genetare the most happy faces.

But, at least to me, those happy faces matter more in large cities than in small ones which already have enough happiness. I believe AI thinks like that too, so spreading your religion in core cities (and capital of course) seems the best way.
