Almost two years later after this thread was created I'm afraid I already know the answer, but ... What's the status ?

Kael is at Stardock getting paid to lead the creation of Elemental: Princess Enchantment (I think that's what it is called). It looks very similar to FfH2 albeit more developed. No surprise there. What he plans to do with a unfinished FfH2, who knows. Kael does visit CFC from time to time. If you want to play an improvement that stays pretty much true to the lore, I suggest Tholal's More Naval AI Mod.
