hi guys.
my son and I are huge Doctor Who fans, but we could not find any mod or scenario related to Dr Who anyhwere. where are you, modders and creators of scenarios, to leave out such a gem of a topic for your works? ;)
we found Vuldacon´s beautiful TARDIS unit, and there are even some Daleks and Doctors around, but now we really want you to put them into a context. will you? or does anyone happen to know a DW mod?

templar_x... Here is a Request for some of the Doctors. wanted years ago. I assume he wanted the different Doctors. because he wanted to use Eras in the Game and show some of the different Doctors.
I believe a Dr Who Game could be made but you need to generate interest for those creators that are still here.

Perhaps you could describe what you and you son would like to see in a Dr. Who Game... more details.

Well then... some ideas and basic concepts:

# Of course one wants the main characters of the show in it. Some as civs and some as units.
# For civs, we could have the Gallifreyans with the Timelord-unit, companions? (and The Doctor UU?), the Daleks (with several Dalek units developing forth), Sontarans?, The Church of the Silence, The Great Intelligence (with the Ice Governess and the Snowmen unit?), the Weeping Angels, Atraxi, Cybermen, etc
# Should the Master be a civ, the Barb Nation, or whatever else?
# City improvements would be like some normal ones, and some futuristic ones, and some individual to each civ.
# Small Wonders like the Space and Time Travel, The Moment, Time Lord Academy, etc
# Great Wonders like The Great Sonic Screwdriver, TARDIS shipyard, the Papal Mainframe (or whatever this is called), The Crack in the Universe (giving more Doctor Units, like the extra regenerations?), etc
# Planets would be continents? Or maybe play it as a pangaea on Trenzalore, what would also allow for a "relatively normal" gameplay, as all the civs WERE THERE in the episode Time of the Doctor!
# Technologies for each civ? We guess.

So the idea maybe is the strongest input we can give is to practically make some kind of a "Time of the Doctor" mod.

Anyone jumping iN with ideas, criticism or enthusiasm? :)

templar_x... if you know how to start the Mod you want, perhaps you can begin to show your ideas and work toward your goals here.
Many members have Games they have been and are working on... get into Modding and do it yourself... as you continue, other interested members can join you.
You can ask for help with things you do not know or understand as well as get others interested in your Game Ideas but the first thing is to put your own efforts and energy into it.

Brace yourself for a long endeavor because there are Many Things that have to be made, adjusted and tested along the way. Not exactly Easy or Fast but If you are committed to the endeavor, you can do it.
Play around with your ideas and start making what you want.
" the journey of a life time begins with the first step".

Thanks for your encouragement, Vuldacon, but for sure this is not going to happen. :) I was merely looking for a mod or scenario already in existence, and due to your friendly advice I posted some very few ideas here. For programming a mod I lack every skill, and while everyone seems extremely helpful here, for asking back here for every detail (because my knowledge about everything that has to do with it is absolutely zero), I lack every time. My weekly schedule sees up to 100 hours of commitment into various activities, mostly work (both professional and honorary) - and being a father. :king: Sometimes I manage to still make a glimpse into this old game, but I mostly keep it alive... just a bit... because my 7-year old is so interested.
Best,

templar_x... I understand, I raised 4 sons and there was not a great deal of time for many other personal endeavors :)
Civ III\Conquests is an easy Game to Modify and there are tutorials and many people here that can help you.

Generally speaking, it helps to start making a Game and show some details that can interest others to join you.

I did not see the Thread at the time about the Guy that wanted to make a Dr Who game when it was posted years ago.
I wonder if he can be contacted and if he is still interested... You might try to contact him about it.

You can use the Many Units, Terrains, Leaderheads, and all sorts of additions here to create something you like. The most time consuming thing is creating those things so you could play around with the Biq and add what you like for a Game.
Take the TARDIS I made and add it for a particular CIV that you name. Give it what ever Powers you want. Add what ever other Civs you want to play against and Units you want them to have.

Start Simple and see what you can do. That is simply experimenting and not difficult... and it becomes Fun when you understand how you can easily create what you want. You could add the TARDIS to a Game in a matter of Minutes.

Dr Who remains Very interesting and well known and I am sure it will continue on into the future.

It probably all appears difficult for you and especially because of your lack of time but it is not difficult or time consuming to add what has already been made. You simply need to know how to add and change what you want in the Civ\Conquests Game and there are many tutorials here that can help you. Also many people who can help you with questions about Modding and making a Game.

It all starts out simple as you get into Making a Game, then you grow with it, adding and adjusting as you continue to develop and make all as you want it to be. It is like building a plane and when built, it Flies.. Good Fun

If I can help you in any way... start a private "conversation" with me here and I will be happy to help you in any way I can.
Oh, and I agree that there needs to be a Dr Who Game made, even if made in a simply way with one Dr., etc...

Okay:

1. Trenzalore is a perfect location for a Dr. Who Mod: a snow-covered landscape with a Christmas theme. Turns out, I have an app for that.

2. For Civs, technologies, and all other scenario data, I'd start with a Dr. Who Wiki like this one. It could also be a great source for Civilopedia images, too.

3. As Vuldacon mentioned, since the graphics change with eras, you could use that to portray at least four doctors - perhaps the 4th (Baker), 10th (Tennant), 11th (Smith), and 13th (Whittaker) as King Units.

Single-era leaderheads would have to be made for all Civs.

4. Companions could be created from Great Leaders. In EFZI, Vuldacon uses an upgrade of Great leaders to create 'champions', which would fill the role of companions quite well.

5. Allies of the Doctor include the Silurians and Sontarans, as well as human troops of the Church of the Papal Mainframe (which also allies him with the Silence and the Headless Monks). A fair army.
Many, if not all of these might be generated by 'improvements and wonders' rather than exist as separate civs. That would make the battlefield more manageable.

6. As for enemies, I'd use the Daleks and the Cybermen for sure, the rest would depend upon creative use of existing units. I'd beg for someone to make a Weeping Angel unit, for sure.

6. The Master's civ would be the mirror image of the Doctor's, perhaps based in a town called "Halloween". His (or her) companions might be human villains from the series.
Also: the Master is fond of anachronisms, allowing for some fun use of unusual units.

7. Other than the Doctors themselves, the units I'd most beg for from the Unit-makers would be the previously mentioned Weeping Angel and K-9, the robotic dog.

I think if one were going to do a Doctor Who mod it would be better as a more focused scenario rather than a wide-ranging mod. In the spirit of Zombie Island, I thought a long time ago it would be great to do a scenario where the Daleks and the Cybermen are both invading London at the same time. I even started to collect audio samples... then they actually did that in the TV programme and I lost enthusiasm!

The problem is, making a scenario like that that is balanced and works is really difficult. Civ III is better suited to - well - pitting civilisations against each other. But then the problem is that Doctor Who isn't really very suitable for that treatment, because it's never had a clearly thought out universe with distinctive civilisations, advances, improvements, and locations that could be portrayed in such a mod.

We (my in the meanwhile 8-year-old and myself ;)) agree with everything said so far:
-a scenario might be better than a mod.
-fewer civs and more putting the different fractions of the series into special Units
-lots of references for advances and improvements could stem from the Dr Who Wiki and the Day of the Doctor-episode... adding to ideas mentioned above: "Decoding ot the Timelord Message", "Barnable´s Barn", "Churchtower", etc
-the Doctors themselves could have high bombard values, high defense values and no attack value, to show his non-aggressiveness but reliant state of mind. ;)

Any developer interested to go there? We could merely help out with ideas and some Dr Who-background, but we would love to see this. My son turned 8 yesterday, so maybe this could become a present for his 10. birthday. ;);)
