Where should I settle? Opinion needed

I only got around to getting their capital on turn 110, due to a lack of iron and lack of money. I had no other civs to trade with so I couldn't buy any CS, I had to wait till I had pikes to get their capital since my horsemen couldn't handle all his spearmen. So when i finally met darius he had like 1000+ points and i only had like 300. Then I met Monty and he also had 1000+ so I just gave up. Maybe I just suck at deity and should go back to immortal, sigh.

Try a great plains map or something. It might be easier for your keshiks. Also don't bother with pikes, just wait until you have keshiks and use only them and 1 horse.

They're special use units. It depends on the kind of bang you're looking for. If you just want more brute firepower, sure. If you're covering two locations with two Archers, one CA might be better. The XP is concentrated, and you pay less in maintenance. Without flatlands to exploit, never worth building.

A pair of CAs can do a fair bit of movement shenanigans to maximize the impact of Warrior screens and city bombardment. Archers are more straightforward, more brute force.

The final point is that CAs can reinforce Warriors on Barb hunting duty outside your borders and still come back for quick defense.

I won't say they're better units, period, but they're not Lancers.

In this case, it's very worth building because it's mongolia. Generally you only have 1 front to defend on deity (if not, you've settled too aggressively), so it's circumstantial otherwise. Also, archers can be 'gamed' too by using move-and-shoot tactics while relying on the AI's inability to do the same. See http://youtu.be/p9pAir7JC7Q for an example.

Wow. That's a monster army. 12 units! In general, I try not to exploit the AI's weaknesses too much, so I assume that it does move and shoot tactics and move accordingly, even though it doesn't. CA's are better for maneuvering due to the added movement advantages. It's definitely circumstantial.

He who calls The Dave a troll is a dumbass.

And what is your 2nd settler doing there! They are not scouts.

Maybe he is going a little far calling him a troll... but...

At the same time Dave and a few of the other posters could have been a little softer. Especially given that while the picture is indeed huge and the minimap is indeed off the screen, they hadn't checked to see if the capitol was on that minimap. In my opinion, if one is going to make such comments to the TC, they should at least make the effort to check the picture and be sure their statements are valid. I can understand the guy getting a little upset at first given those first few responses. Anyway, I've lurked quite abit here, and that's just my two cents.

As for the topic at hand, I would have to agree with some of the others and say it's good where it is. Though any of the previous sugguestions are good for the most part.
