Where'd the 3.13 change list thread go?

Psyringe, I'm interested in what you're getting for wait times in between turns in the modern era with that mod. Got an estimate?

Hard to tell, my feeling for time is spectacularly bad (I keep getting surprised that it's suddenly Christmas, for example ;) ). Subjectively, it didn't feel too long. When there are enemy units moving around, I *want* to watch them, so this part of the inter-turn doesn't really feel like "waiting". An when I *do* have to wait and nothing happens on the screen, I usually plan my strategies for the following turn (or try to burn into my memory *not* to forget switching civics again, etc. ;) ). I'll fire my last game up in about an hour and take the time with a stop-watch, then I can give you a better answer.

Btw, since this question comes up a lot, I was thinking about collecting some saves with different map sizes and numbers of players, saved in the modern era, so that players can download them and estimate how such a game would work on their computer. I just never got around to start a thread about it. But I think it might be a useful resource, since otherwise we only find out that we overstrained our machines' resources when we already invested hours into a game.

Btw (not just to keep this on topic :) ) does anyone remember the changes to colonies in 3.13? Lt.Bob's dll has the advantage that colonies can spawn although you start with 34 players, but naturally the colonies will be a "double" of an existing civilization, albeit with a different leader. Did I read something about 3.13 making it impossible to spawn a civ that is already present? If so, Lt.Bob will probably have to remove this check ... or we'll have to add more modded civs and leaders. :)

OK, This thread is Where'd the 3.13 change list thread go? so
above is [offtopic] but please carry-on.

Just want to know what the rules are.

edit: Oh, here they are
posts in threads that have NOTHING to do with the subject matter are all considered spam and will be deleted on sight

I think a moderator should close this thread. It's obvious that it is going in the same direction that the last one went, and the title question has already been answered. The change log is posted again. What more is there to say...?

Not really. If I were looking for a fight, I had taken it to PM. I *am* looking for ways to make Firaxians (including Alexman) *want* to come here and share information again. I did ask NYC for suggestions. I didn't get any, so I voiced my disappointment. I'm not looking for a fight, I'm looking for an answer.

A last comment then. Please nominate a respected member of this community to contact Alexman and Firaxis and offer an apology-of-sorts, perhaps in some neutral way, for any and all misunderstandings, regrettable words, actions, and the like and that we do value his contributions, information, et al.

something like the above (I would add my name to it)

We need a place to vent until the patch comes out. It's the spirit of the community. We're all clamoring for the patch and we all feel like we waited too long for it! The mood of the group is impatient and irritated. Some are angry at others for being impatient, but most of us are like "come on now, give us a patch or tell us something!"

That's just the way it is. No amount of moderating and punishing is going to make people feel different. Once the patch is released everyone will be buzzing about the patch.

I doubt anyone at firaxis has such thin skin that they will get all pissed off at us, we're just enthusiastic and totally overreacting to every piece of news we get, totally obsessed with Civ 4, as the domain name suggests.

I've been playing v3.03 (yes the buggy one) since it was released and I find the game very playable.

Relax, go play a few games, get some work done, and the patch will be out when it's ready.

If the game were unplayable, I could see people getting upset, but right now this is ridiculous.

Until I went out and spent $200 on a new video card the game was unplayable (I had no other gaming problems). I'm sure I'm not alone in having BTS unplayable otherwise there wouldn't be this much activity.

I'm new to posting on this forum and I'm learning a lot about a game I thought I knew something about.

Having lead a gaming company & knowing the importance of a strong customer base & controlled comunications, in Firaxis shoes I would take the fuss here as being a positive indication of the depth of customer feeling about the game. It is also an object lesson for Firaxis employees not to 'leak' information in defiance of the companies official communication strategy, the object lesson being that customers given un-authorised release dates understandably get upset when higher authorities delay the release.

I suspect Alexman has been rapped on the knuckles by Firaxis, causing the removal of the change log & possibly his other posts before the thread was deleted. Unfortunately for Alexman, he cannot delete the posts that copied his comments & changelog... If anything Alexman owes both Firaxis and the forum community an apology for raising false expectations. However either way, it is like he will continue to use the forum for feedback and QA help, the community is too valuable a resource.

Interestingly the debates two prime camps seem to to argue;
1. Don't upset Alexman, he may stop telling us privilaged company information.
2. Having given us privilaged company information, he has an obligation to keep us informed on the progress of the privaliged company information.

In fact Alexman has, no doubt with the best of intentions, breached his duty of good faith to both his employers and his customer base.

Personally I would like to know he hasn't left his job...
Besides, I'm waiting on Kaels patch for FfH, which is waiting on Alexman's...

Cheers!
Matt

My goodness. THE GAME IS NOT BROKEN, PEOPLE! Stop complaining and play a freakin game!

I will not. Not until it is patched, I am aware of it now (since announced) and I cannot do so, given the time it takes to play, and to play the way I want to play and be played against by the AI and the intended game rules and mechanics. Now that's just me.

edit: To me, it is like playing a game of chess, and a pawn is missing.

No pawns missing, they are all right here in this thread ! :D

you sort of insult quite a few people then, if I understand your play on my words correctly.

Edit: Interesting in that there was a little hiccup that occurred in these here discussion threads about where one might find (or why can't we have) a good, healthy, non-flame discussion at this forum as opposed to another one.

To stay as general as possible, I just don't see better at one forum or the other in my view.

I have had dialogue with quite a few thoughtful, caring, interested, and pretty darn smart folks here..some of it not of course; just a footnote that I wanted to add.

second edit: I will admit to a little touchiness lately so

And dontcha know, Brother Entwood, but I'll be danged if there ain't some people complainin' 'bout too many posts and rude behavior by us posters over thisa way who go way out thar way not only to post here about the too many posts posted here but to troll on over to that thar Greek site jes so they can post even more posts trash talkin' 'bout us "lesser intellect" types postin' posts over thisa way. Now if that don't beat all! It's jes like my brother Woodrow said to my brother Woodrow: "Dang if that thar pot ain't as black as that thar kettle!"

Just sayin'. :mischief:

(Ma says that's more food fer thought. :cowboy: )

It would seem as though Firaxis never hears anything but complaints anymore. It always stems from an upcoming patch that people are "waiting" for. What Firaxis is hearing is not WAITING... they are hearing DEMANDING.

Complaining, whining, sniveling, not having a date for Friday night......

Finally someone has the courtesy to let loose a little information and everything spins out of control.

Will it ever end? Will people be satisfied with the UNGODLY important patch? Nah. That will only start new threads from people who are not satisfied with the patch. People who wanted something absurdly changed, people who havent got a date for next Friday night...

Seriously is all this worth it? We know they are working on a patch. We know some (if not most) of the issues people have are being tweaked fixed changed etc.... We know it is forthcoming.

Let it go. Be adults. This is a game, not your retirement fund.

It isn't? Can you post that fix for Waiting for other Civilizations...? Because this thread:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=232292

Says it's confirmed. And I can confirm it, because I have it, and not on some game I spent 10 minutes on. Try 10 days.

Stop complaining and play a freakin game!

I think most folks waiting for the patch would like to, but are not willing to invest more time and energy into a game that is going to likely end with a gamekilling bug, I know I am not.

Let me guess --- the 1st and 2nd have now passed, and it still ain't out.

I think we'll get a MOO3 patch first. Sorry, that was low.

And now the change list has been removed. So, we've got time to come to CivFanatics to remove the change list, but not say "hey, sorry for the delay, but we really think it's this week!". Or even "change list may shorten for X reasons".

THAT is sorryness. Of the first order.

Indeed. The eyes of (insert another forum) are upon us! I didn't like the quaint, let's pat-each-other-on-the-back, elitist, let's gossip quietly-about-the-neighbors viewpoint over there to be honest, and I do have an open mind.

I was slightly surprised that CIV is the only game you play. I jumped here after a stint with Oblivion, where there was just more modding than playing for me but actually, the best forum I have ever been on. Top Notch stuff there. I love CIV and the Total War Series and that's about it (patch issues over there also). I like this forum and it is my distinct pleasure to have made your acquaintance along the way Sir.

Let's just hope that a patch does indeed come out, in its own good time, and that it comes with a reliable and accessible change list. Both are needed.

I also noticed some really odd commentary over at Poly. Mind you, I post at both, and have oh long since before you were born... or at least since Civ2 and 28.8 modem access...

It's odd, the two biggest Civ sites, shouldn't it be more brotherly in our epic quest to run RTS games into the trash bin? Guess maybe we're doomed to fight like the Hatfields and the McCoys...

I will be Switzerland and stay neutral.
