Where's Adolf?

this thread kind of filled me with a bit of anger when i first read it....

But now its filling me with fear....

So many people are in favor of having Adolf hitler in the game because of his "achievements"

This is the reason why men like him come to power, because we are blinded by the true consequences of action. most of you have no sense of time and place with regards to history... It is just as ignorant as a German who says without thought that he would have never followed Adolf Hitler.

and yes, im sure it seem's quite trivial because it's "just a game"... but if we refuse to see the purpose of our actions, or more dangerously, our words, then we refuse to see their future.

I'm sure when Hitler revoked the right for his people to vote him out of power, his great deed's made it seem trivial...

And when he demanded land from Britain/France I'm sure it seemed trivial because it was for peace...

Edit: After looking back a page i noticed people have already said this like ten times, so sorry about being repetitive.
I edited it out.

I agree that it would be hilarious to have an animated Hitler to negotiate with, with all his wild trademark gestures.
They could have him say some really cool stuff too.

Most people asking for Hitler aren't doing so because they think he'd be a cool guy to play as. They're asking because they would find it satisfying to defeat him as a computer opponent. The purpose of all the AI opponents is ultimately to lose (even if you're challenging yourself at a high difficulty, ultimately you intend to learn to beat that level). Its a bit of an honor to that historical figure that you would want to play as them, but its certainly no honor that you'd like to crush them. There are plenty of WW2 games out there in which you play the Allies.

Even President Roosevelt initiated the Pacific war by embargoing oil to Japan, thereby setting into motion conflict that killed millions. He did not start the war, but he and his advisers knew damn well what measures the Japanese would have to take to maintain their rapidly modernising economy and military. Who's worse, the fellow who goads another into throwing punches or the person who got sucked into throwin' em? tough call...

Japan had already begun the conquering and killing at that point, which was the point of the embargo. It would have been a greater evil to keep feeding their war machine when we knew they were using it to kill people. The Japanese were prepared to expand as much as they could sustain, so our involvement in the Pacific didn't cause more people to die, it just changed who was doing the dying.

As mentioned, it would be illegal to sell the game in Germany if Hitler was a leader. What more needs to be discussed?

Then keep him out of the German version of the game

I don't understand why people don't like having good conversations. If you don't want to read about this, don't open the thread.

Just put him in the game. I don't understand why not. He is the most known leader- bismarck and ferdinand are not known by the average person. Hitler is. Having more leaders, in my opinion would be neat. I don't like always playing with the same people. But alas, I can't put him in. I don't know how to mod.

Can we just ban all Hitler threads please?

Moderator Action: Good idea. Thread closed. There's just too many of these threads, and they disolve into the same thing over and over. Besides, Firaxis wouldn't do something that could be a bad PR move.
