i dont understand something why go religious if you can do science library's are almost as cheap as temples wit a science civ and they produce better culture so no question in cultural developement, plus they bring extra gold for science. plus the big advantage of a civ every for free - FREE!!! tell me how religion beats that

Temples make people happy. Libraries don't. In the early game, and late too, you want all of your citizens producing, not entertaining others.

affirmative, if you that desperate use the lux slider that way wit all extra science you wouldnt get so much damage if you slide down science.

On a more general note, i'd like to say that i've been doing some civ research, and i gotta tell you aztecs make a gr8 civ on a lot of level sure the extra science would be nice, but they have a unit that has a 2 movement rate making them expanionist -5 turns, so itz like 3 civ abilities instead of 2

True. So, let's reach a compromise. If you are religious you should build temples first. They are cheap and make people happy. If you are scientific then you can make libraries first.

I voted scientific for the free techs and the cheap libraries for an early border stretch.
My second choice used to be industrious, but in C3C, I've changed to seafaring. Those faster moving galleys that quite often survive in the ocean are really useful for making early contacts (and some surprises w/berserks :) )

Religous
industrious
militaristic

I tolerate scientific as mush as possible but I don't like commercial or expansionist.
It's weird but I have to play an exp civ the iroquis because of the very early&fast mounted warrior.
Fortunatelly I don't have PTW with cheltic(rel, ind&gallic swordman) instead og iroquis.

It really depends on whether I'm going for donquest or space race. The Russians are great for space race because scientific and expansiontist gets them way ahead of the game early on. For conquest I like the Persians because again scientific keeps you ahead and industrious is always helpful. Overall I think industrious is my favorite. Those workers are just TOO SLOW!

BTW for whoever asked, here are the two new traits:
Agricultural: +1 food in city tile and irrigated desert, cheaper aqueducts, recycling and solar plants
Seafaring: +1 commerce coastal city tiles, faster ships, less chance of sinking, cheaper sea-related improvements

Industrious. Shields and extra Worker speed is ALWAYS useful, no matter what. :D

Scientific is my attribute of choice. Cheap libraries, and extra tech at beginning of age. Although I am partial to Religious and Industrial.

Militaristic just because.. more armies and appearances of leaders. I'm a warmonger in the early game and then I tone down, but it's the beginning rushes I make which help me succeed in the end. Without militaristic, I would be weak until modern times. :p

Industrious. Double speed or for Conquests 1.5 speed workers are great. Excelent for getting the most out your city early on. Expansionist is also great. Basically the whole ancient tech tree is handed to you as well as a bunch of cash and some settlers/cities.

Trait Combos are probably more relevant. For instance Mil + Ind and Riders make the Chinese a very fast war machine.

Scientific is my favorite. Cheap libraries, universities, at a time when such improvements take longer to build because of generally low production output.

And of course the addition of Science Leaders makes the Scientific trait better.

RELIGIOUS!!!

Quick expand of the border by cheap builded temple.
And more important "one turn anarchy" (hate when advicor said to me:"we will have our cities in control for about 8 turns" ) and less fear of war (hate when all sities in my civ start o rioting and if you have a lots of cities it's realy frustraiting) couse you can easily switch on Commy or Monarchy!

But I also like all the rest Mil.,Ind.,Sci...it's depends...

1. Industrious - Fast workers
2. Scientific - Cheap libraries

The other traits are all good too, when applied properly, but these two I like most. Combine them with the Ottoman UU (the Sipahi) and you've got (IMHO) the best civ in the game...

Religious!

30 shield temples are the cheapest culture (and territory expand) gain - a must for every city. (With scientific, I build libraries first)
Also to avoid that awful Anarchy between goverments is really pleasant, and means you can swich goverments after the situation. Great!

If playing on a huge map (and perhaps also pangea), Expansionistic may be the best since you'll get very many new techs from goody huts with your scouts. On small maps Expansionistc is almost useless.

Man I couldn't agree more, except i hate expansionist in all cases.

I am currently staying away from Religious ONLY due to the fact that i felt it was too easy to switch governments, plus the Ottomans Rock.

I like Religous the most because I AM RELIGOUS and the fact that you can change governments in like less then 3 turns.
