Personnally I like militaristic cuz i like to have a nice big army and then use all my leaders to hurry wonderz like krazy, but i wanted to see other opinions to give me an idea of whatz better or worse in practice

Commercial, it really fits my play style best.

Scientific, cheap libraries and universities. In Conquests really good for scientific GLs

Religious!

30 shield temples are the cheapest culture (and territory expand) gain - a must for every city. (With scientific, I build libraries first)
Also to avoid that awful Anarchy between goverments is really pleasant, and means you can swich goverments after the situation. Great!

If playing on a huge map (and perhaps also pangea), Expansionistic may be the best since you'll get very many new techs from goody huts with your scouts. On small maps Expansionistc is almost useless.

By the Way, What about making a new Poll with the two new traits as well?

Agricultural is indeed good - specially on dry and hot Maps where you can settle deserts, while non-agricultural civs can't) or at least not grow very much)

Seafaring is great for archipelogo Maps, and gives more diversity for different playstyles and settings.

I like Industrious, because of the faster workers.

I like Religous, because of the one turn anarchy.

I like Scientific, because of the free techs at the start of a new age.

I like Expansionist, because of no-barb-popping, and the scout is nice in the early game.

I like Commercial, for the extra income later in the game.

I like Militaristic, because of the better military units later in the game (More elites).

Haven't played Conquests yet, so I'm not sure about the agricultural and seafaring traits.

So really, it depends on what type of game I want to play. If I'm playing DyP, I tend to go towards Religous, because I change gov'ts often in that mod. Regular Civ, I tend to play America or Persia/Ottoman more, becuase I like those traits. I also tend to pick a civ for it's UU.

So for me, there is no attribute I prefer over another one. They all have strenghts, and weaknesses. One day I may get lazy, and go into the editor and pick a civ and make all of them available. Maybe pick the AI civs and do the same for them. That might make it interesting. . .

Welcome to CFC ccfoster! :band:

Commercial? Have you ever laid down more than 50 cities on a huge map? Try that with a commercial and a noncommercial civ and you'll see the differece! It, much like Expansionist see dramatic rises in their value as you increase in map size and difficulty, especially on pangaea's...

I really like Industrious & Scientific. Needless to say the Ottomans became my favorite civ with the Sipahi UU. In Conquests the Industrious is toned down but still not all that bad.

I played PTW almost exclusively with the Ottomans and can't recall a game of PTW without them. With C3C I have switched to Random and it has worked out interestingly.

Game one was with the Hittites who are Commercial/Expansionist. Worked out okay because I was on a huge map and a huge continent with only the Babylonians who I hemmed into the southern tip of the continent and blocked off a couple of choke points. Scout picked up a TON of goody huts and I was never seriously challenged in the entire game. Commercial gave me tons of cash at all times. Slow workers and no free tech really sucked though.

Next game was with Mongols. Military/Expansionist really sucks for my style. Really lucked out by being placed in an area with two parralell flood valleys where the valley's were three wide and surrounded by hills. I quickly had ten cities in these two valleys and they apsolutely cranked out the shields and grew huge from the flood plains. Expansionist got me nothing at all as the Chinese and Japanese pretty much had me hemmed in on a rather mountainy smaller continent. Scouts are no better than a warrior in the mountains. I think I got two free techs from huts. Military sucked as I conquered 50+ cities and got two stinking great leaders the entire time. Cheap barracks were nice until I built the War Academy. Propably user error as I took a Diplomatic win with the Monguls.

Current game is England. Commercial/Seafaring. First test of seafaring was useless as it turns out all 10 Civs are on one huge continent. Three little one city islands on the whole thing otherwise a bloodbath on one continent. Commercial is cranking the cash out and I have not dipped below $2,000 since going to Republic. Even as a Despot I had tons of cash. Seafaring was useless on that map though although does it not increase commerce as well?

Fun game though when everyone is on the same damn continent though. Sumarians were beating on everyone early on and then declared war on me in 1200AD. I checked the score and the Sumarians were in first with 1981 points and I was in second with 827 points. I looked at my dozen Horsemen and 6 Knights and knew I was in trouble. Commercial was good to me with money though and helped as I had no problems establishing embassies with every civ as I met them. Also keeps the science rate rolling so was ahead in tech. So it was "alright you dumb pansy looking blue pricks. Time for a little game of 9 on 1 if you are up to it." Quick alliances with every other single civ on the board had the Sumarians being attacked from every direction. About 40 turns later the Sumarians were no more. About 20 turns later the Russians tried the same gambit so and a little 8 on 1 did them in. The 60 turns of war trashed my infastructure though as I am still building Universities well into the Industrial Revolution and still have cities without temples and barracks. 60 turns of war in Republic wears on the people a little!

Industrious- Fast workers :D

I always used a militaristic civ, that's until now, for me, the only way to win. But thank this poll, i will try now an expansionist/religious civ. Does it exists?

I like industrious, and have been experimenting the others. Expansionist and militaristic are out, since I'n a pacifist who concentrates on a few big cities instead of expanding. I'm playing Egypt now and will do Persia next, that being my best bet. Does anyone know what the two new ones do?

I too like industrious and scientific, but I pick the Persians, and the Immortal 4-2-1 UU for early wars, compared to the Spahi, which needs Mil Trad (cavalry). OK, so the golden age may be during despotism. You could postpone war til you have republic, if you are careful, and aren't next to the Germans, or other pushy neigbors who insist on testing your fortitude. 4 or 5 veteran immortals can take most cities, unless the RNG is very unkind, or you are trying for a well garrisioned capital. The earlier you fight, the less likely the enemy has a lot of troops. And warriors upgrade to Immortals. It may be my immagination, but since immortals tend to win fights more often, they seem to promote to elite more, than say archers or swordsmen. Enough victorious battles with elite immortals are likely to produce great leaders, which give you armies of immortals that are even more likely to give victory, early, which gives a high score bonus. X-man the magnificent!

Egypt ;)

Thats what I was thinking.

Scientific - helps cheap culture, research, and the free tech allows trading potential (commercial) - so one trait really touches on 3 different aspects.
