Which CivFanatics are involved with Civ V?

I remember, when Civ IV came out, that a number of members of this community had been involved in play testing the game and making suggestions to Firaxis for improvements.

I'm pretty sure that anyone involved with Civ V would be under NDA, but I think it would be fun to speculate as to who is involved.

My guess: Obsolete, since he's been very vocal about the AI limitations.

If we just go by if someone's registered, I'm 99% positive these are involved:
-Sid Meier
-2K Elizabeth
-Jon Shafer
-alexman

Here's your 1%. Alex doesn't work for Firaxis anymore, Sid is creative director so he oversees all projects at an executive level not a project level (Jon Shafer and whoever is Producer is calling the shots on Civ5) and Elizabeth works for 2K as public relations, so probably copy/pastes what she's emailed. ;)

Well, aside from Alex (didn't know he wasn't at Firaxis anymore), they're still technically involved. Just not at a very deep level.

just read an actual post from sirian.

Really? Cool! I wonder where he's been hiding! ;)

Sullla is busy filling my old shoes at Realms Beyond, running the Epics and other tournament activity there. According to his news post there about Civ5's announcement, he is not involved. So that answers that at least.

If you want to read one of the most excellent after-action Civ reports ever written, find your way to Sullla's page and read the extensive demogame report. Warning, may consume hours of your time!

I've stalked his site and read all his write-ups atleast twice. :p
Should I be ashamed for being such a civ-freak, or proud? Anyway, Sirian, you never actually denied working on Civ 5, you just stated that Sulla isn't. Are you working on it?

It is rude to ask someone if they are involved in a closed beta or alpha testing of a product, because usually that is covered by an NDA.

It's not wrong to ask, but it's wrong if they answer yes ;)

Mostly Realms Beyond is hosting Pitboss and PBEM exhibition matches, with the SP games taking a side role atm. Pretty nice place to read IMO.

It's not actually against an NDA to admit you are a tester, once the game has been announced, before it's been announced it is, as the fact that the game even exists at that point is IP.

Whether Sirian is involved or not, I hope Firaxis will stick with moddable map scripts as in Civ IV. Just come up with a way to have rivers code be less of a nightmare. I mean, there will be 6 instead of 4 places to put a river around a tile now.

Well since Sirian returned after close to 2 years of silence with this post:
In summer 2004, Jon and I had a lengthy back and forth on CivFanatics about what ought to be in Civ4. I bet if any of those posts survive, it would make for some interesting reading today. :D

I would guess the chances are high that the answer is yes ;)
