I voted Civ4.

Civ3 was truly awesome, when I got Civ4 I took quite some time to get used to it and only about over an year I started understanding it better and having as much fun there as I had in Civ3.

But as times goes by, Civ3 just gets older and older and I already played the crap out of it. Neither of them were perfect but now I'm just so used to Civ4 I couldn't just go back to Civ3.

In short, both Civ3 and Civ4 are awesome, the only reason I choose Civ4 is because it's not as old.

Alright then. But through your righteousness it appeared you were attempting to resurrect the argument of console vs PC.
Nope, I don't even own a (21st century) console.

PC Versus Smartphone on the other hand....

Yes, but it doesn't have multiplayer.

I started on Civ 3, played it tons, got Civ 4, played it lots, got Civ 5, and I play it whenever I can now, but I will play Civ 4 when Civ 5 isn't available. I have played Civ 1 and 2 a bit, but never finished a game. Right mow I'm itching for a game of Civ 3.

I'm similar, although I still go back to III, especially for some of the scenarios. I think for it's time III was better (played more of that all told than IV) but I play more IV now. I still haven't played III to death yet. I find that III often plays faster for me as well - so one game doesn't take as long (except IV OCC).

@Antilogic - I wish I hadn't figured out your Avatar. Now I go crazy every time I look at it. Nice Avatar, though. For years I thought it was just a Pelican.

CivIII pwns CivV 29-15 :rotfl:

Yea, that's great

I reckon that if it was for the overall gaming, and not what they are playing at the moment, CivIII could actually win. I think most people just play Civ4 for the reason uat2d explained:

Or because most people here that was their first version?

I play Civ V the most, but just barely, over Civ IV Fall From Heaven II and Fall Further mods.

Or this. It was my first version but I don't think that's the reason I still play it. Could be, though.

Civ III is the only one I own, although I have both versions of Colonization. The first one was a gift because the guy said I could have this stack of old games or he would throw them out. Most of them are too old to work on my computer!

DOSBox is your friend there.

Civ4, best of the serie by far, and blessed with bot insanely good mods (Fall From Heaven II is simply jaw-dropping awesome) and very functionnal multiplayer (first time I could really play with pal all over the world on a Civ, it's been a blast).

And seeing how the franchise is going down the drain, it's probably not gonna be dethroned.

I played Civ 3 a lot back then. Civ 4 is the best. I did play some Civ 5 multiplayer recently.

I am still optimistic that we will get part 6 of the series. It is these stupid DLCs and no expansion pack is what getting on my nerves. Bought them all. And I don't normally buy games except that I do buy COD and the Battlefield titles.

Civ 3 for the countless hours I spent playing it, and of course this beautiful song.

They need to get back to the roots of what made Civ 3 so great, and combine it with the polishing and modding ability that Civ 4 had, and you'll have a truly great game.
