It is said that the best place for a space elevator is right on the Equator. It crosses the countries marked in red. This question can be approached in two ways. Which one would be the most feasible construction? Or, which one deserves the economic stimulus represented by a conduit for goods and materials between Earth and space?

Brazil. Most stable and best of all, not European.

Good question. I support São Tomé and Príncipe until I hear a good reason not to.

kenya - halfway between the Governments that will fund it.

But none of these countries are European.

Might not be enough space for industries to develop closer to the space elevator. Though I guess they could be built on the other countries around the Gulf of Guinea.

At the increased expense of transport at the base area, though.

Somalia. The place needs the business, and it would be an exciting challenge.

Poll is much simpler with countries that actually touch the equator. As for Baker Island, there would more expense in finding enough space for the facilities and I don't think the US is in grave need of the economic development.

I said Indonesia because its relatively close to major Asian population centres, and unlike the Indian Ocean, it's not the ocean.

And I was beginning to think nobody liked Indonesia. :p

Kalimantan seems the best location for that. Malaysia and Brunei would agree.

I think the first one should be in the Pacific Ocean, entirely for safety considerations. Putting it way out there would allow it to dodge storms (by moving the platform) and also discourage asinine efforts at sabotage. It won't be able to stymie serious military hostility based on location alone, but ehn, the world's not perfect.

The first one will significantly drop the price. The next two should be closer to India and the Orient as well as Brazil. This would allow them to be close to make economic ports and thus reduce the cost of transactions. This would be the starting point of Humanity's space age.

Why is the Pacific the best ocean for that?
