Which equatorial country should get a space elevator?

Which one should we build a space elevator in?

Sheer distance, plus the edging countries are non-hostile to progress.
I've no idea how they'd build it... Where would it be assembled?

I still think São Tomé and Príncipe seems like the best place. It's stable and small enough to not cause trouble.

Brazil.

An elevator to space

Link to video.

I'm not sure how feasible they are.

Non-Equator, Guam!

That's a rather provocative statement to make.

Well, what I mean is that they're mostly not warlike or unstable countries. Compare this to building one near (say) Somalia. It would just be too close to unstable regimes. I'm mostly going for dilution via. distance. Yes, there're crazy New Zealanders, but I think the gov't of New Zealand does help contain them.

I don't see how that's provocative.

I would just have said "unstable". The implication was that there was something about their attitudes that just comes off as wrong.

For technical reasons (getting the rope out of the way of planes, sattelites and space debris), a space elevator would probably be built on a swimming platform.

And if we can build one, we can build many.

That attitude is probably why they've not been to space yet on their own. :mischief:

If Britain wants to go to space they'll do it in a manner befitting a civilized country. With a space lift.
The British haven't been civilized for sixteen hundred years. Why would they start now?

Yes, there're crazy New Zealanders, but I think the gov't of New Zealand does help contain them.

Guilty as charged. :smug:

I think Ecuador is probably the best choice and the extra height would help. Failing that, Brazil.

Mount Kenya is 5,199m high and is about 150km from Nairobi
