Which female leader would you prefer instead of Boudica?

Antilogic, Alex barely makes your definition. I understand your reasoning though and I guess since she was a tribal queen (and unsuccessful general) she makes more sense than a teenager to be included. Besides, who plays as France anyways?

I'd also like to second Godiva. So long as it is tasteful ;)

Boudy has actually two BIG arguments going for her :)

Empress Wu was also fairly influential before taking the throne. Among the included civs, she is easily the most capable female not already included, and, is, IMO, better than Boudicca. They could've gone with Dido. I mean...Gilgamesh is pretty mythological, and they could've made her really emo or something.

Actually, ability wise, Wu was on par with Eliz I, maybe better than Victoria. Should be better than Hatshy. Tang Empire at her time was like England at their good time. Boudica was simply not in her class.

Since including Boudica was simply for her "sexual appeal", maybe they can consider the following candidates in Civ 5:

  • Queen Elizabeth II: No reason, just because she looked great when she's young (actually she's still look quite good as an old lady). And at least she is the real queen.
  • Joan of Arc: I don't care she only took charge of the army for 3 years and then betrayed by her own people. She was young, had personality (may be even too many:crazyeye: ), and was apparently more capable than Boudica. And most important of all, she was a French girl nobody knows what she exactly looked like, so Firaxis can made her as attractive as possible. Replace the disgusting Louis with her, please.
  • Empress Wu: The young concubine of Tang Taizong could get Taizong's son to remember her and took her back from her exiled life after Taizong's death. She must be attractive. OK, make her like Zhang ziyi with better nutrition and she'll be the dream girls of some Civ players.
  • Cleopatra: Even she didn't look great according to historians, just present her like the young Elizabeth Taylor (OK, make sure the same Taylor not after she got old and received a dozen of facelifts and botox) and double the size of her bxxxx.
  • Princess Diana: Why not go one step further? Who cares she's a real leader. She looked great, certainly better than the dirty version of Xena, and is highly marketable. Isn't marketability of highest priority??

I know Alex barely makes that definition. He died at what...33? Something along those lines in Babylon. Having Alex lead Greece was kind of sketchy to begin with anyway.

@gettingfat: I hope you are kidding.

32, though that is nit-picking as he died a couple of weeks before his birthday. Really though, the Maks, were as Greek as English is a Germanic language. There're differences(that were much harped upon by the xenophobic poleis in "true" Hellas) but they were very similar culturally. The Epeirotes were pretty similar and could be classed as "Hellens" as well, as long as you use a slightly more expansive definition than what is offered by Athenians. The Maks, at least, seem to have spoken Greek in most instances: they may have even stopped speaking their native language altogether, at least at the top. Frankly, we don't know much about the average Makedonian.

Are you serious?
Elizabeth Bathory drank and bathed in the blood of young girls and women after sexual abusing them. She thought the blood would keep her young. She would have to be the worst possible choice.

Careful....someone will show up and start a theread about how she was great leader despite being twisted and evil and all and begin comparisons to Mao and Stalin. :mischief:

Godwin's law I believe.

I personally would like to see Queen Zenobia of Palmyra. Very capable leader.

Zenobia was a third-century queen of Palmyra, a "warrior queen." Zenobia led her people in a war against Rome, much like Boudica did in England. Zenobia appears to have been an Arab, although she may have had many other dashes of blood in her, including Aramaean. Palmyrene inscriptions are found in the Greek, Latin and Aramaic languages. Although Zenobia claimed to have been a descendent of Cleopatra (of Egypt), there appears to be no concrete evidence of that. She did, however, know the Egyptian language and had a strong predisposition towards the Egyptian culture. Her mother may have been Egyptian. By associating herself with a past, glorious woman warrior, Zenobia understood the power of good public relations.

That sounds right--it's been awhile since I've touched my Greek history books (too much research on electrophoresis and process control). I knew he died at 32 or 33, just couldn't remember which.

As I understood it, the upper-class of the Macedonians emulated the Greeks, learned Greek, and generally acted like Greeks. The lower classes, though, still retained their native language. However, that may be an outdated hypothesis.

Indira Gandhi of India

Charismatic (she was a populist) and Agressive would have been a good fit (she successfully won the 1971 war against Pakistan), fits an existing Civ, and would finally provide them the warlord they've been lacking in the game.

Also Maria de Lurdes Pintasilgo (of Portugal)

Spiritual (she was a hardcore leftwing Catholic),
Charismatic (her many, many social works), and Industrial (both social work and her occupation as Industrial Engineer) would be good choices for her.

For the Vikings, although her reign is a little later than the Viking age, Margaret I, who united Denmark, Norway (at the time including Iceland, Greenland and the Faero islands) and Sweden (which included Finland) and founded the Kalmar union. Organized/Protective might work.
