There should be more options to your poll. I do believe that it's likely that there is a God but I can offer no proof of it. I don't believe that God will judge us after we die based on man-made religious beliefs. Chuck Norris is a nutjob by the way.

I prefer Bob Marley to Pascal's Wager.

Most people think, Great God will come from the sky, take away everything, and make everybody feel high.

But if you know what life is worth, you will look for yours on Earth, and now you see the light, you stand up for your rights, Ja!

Get the confirmation, even without believing.

The world seems designed to reward those who jump through the hoops, even if they don't believe in them. When your pa tells you to not look down the barrel of the rifle, you're best off not doing it - even if you don't think the rifle is loaded. When your gran tells you to get confirmed, or you'll go to Hell, well - might as well do it.

Fortunately, my confirmation was carried out before I really started thinking about this sort of thing. But I'd get confirmed anyway, just for custom's sake. If God does not exist, it doesn't matter. If He does exist, you will be throwing yourself on His mercy anyway when you kick the bucket. If He is as merciful as typically portrayed, you'll be forgiven. If He's not as merciful as we are led to believe, you're screwed anyway for not believing.

I have to say I was hoping for slightly . . . more creative poll options for "what is more sinful.

Like, a) blow up a bus full of nuns, or b) sleep with a bus full of nuns.

Both are highly dependent on the age and hawtness of the occupying nuns.

If God is real and appears when i die i will believe to that eccentric dragon with five horns then , anyway.

b) sleep with a bus full of nuns.
I've done this ... and it's over-rated.

I'm not sure why this "hypothetical" person is so concerned about covering his ass when it comes to the hereafter. From my reading of the Christian Bible, as well dipping my toe into the Qaran occasionally and dating a Jewish chick in college, Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah is more concerned about what is going on inside your heart, in your soul, than whether or not you carry out some church ritual. If you actually think this will help you gain entry to paradise after you die, I think you're woefully ill-informed.

That being said, I'd do it. What the hell....

He's not sure of the thing, so he doesn't believe but wants to cover his back. Wants to create a win-win situation.
Sounds more like a lose-lose situation to me.

^^

How can it be a lose-lose situation? If that would work, it would be a certain win-win. If there's nothing after life, then it's win, as he doesn't have to suffer. If there is a heaven, he gets there. How can that be a lose?

If Jehovah was actually merely interested in what's in your heart, then the Bible wouldn't be full of physical tests of faith.

The Book of Job is a great example of not really caring what's in the heart but forcing someone through brutalities to see their external reaction.

Lose-lose because...

1. You get stereotypes during religious debate/dispute.
2. God will know you didn't trust him and tried to trick his system.

1. Gee, I didn't know that I'd care about CFC debates after my death!

2. That is the problematic part. You would have publicly announced your belief to God, but you'd be still lying.

Why would you try lying to God?
