Which is worse or less of a religion?

Wicca is a religion, Scientology is not. The difference between the two is obvious: the purpose of Wicca is spiritual, where's the purpose of Scientology is to make money for its founders.

Spending anything on religion is a waste of resources.

One could argue that the emotional support and comfort which can be granted by religion is worth investment. After all, simply because something does not, in itself, provide you with material gain does not render it "wasteful".
