Quoted for super correctness
The difference with Sp and to a much lesser extent Charles Li is that these are spammers(not n00bs) who refuse to learn and to constructively participate in our community and our forum. We/I have tried to lend helping hands, to give advice, to be generally nice in attempts-that now appear misguided-to make them better players. There have been glimmers of improvement from Charles(thank the lord) but not many, and Sp has shown time and time again that he is unwilling(not unable) to improve and learn. If harsh criticism is what it takes to force these two to shape up, then I will gladly dispense of it. I'm sure that they will be constructive players and members in the future, but as of right now their inability to learn is a detriment to all the games they are in-and even the ones they're not.
But with Charles and Sp the story is different. It is of two Americans who want in without working, who are lazy and show no drive, no motivation for improvement. Instead of rising to the challenge the NESing forum presents, they seemingly wish to drag us down with them. NuclearKid was once the same way, but with criticism and some hard knocks, he has become the quality and competant player he is today. Precedent vindicates my at time venomous outbursts, because if it is only through words that we may regret someday that we can build up Charles and Sp, then we must use them when needed in order to render them no longer necessary.
When we build up new players, we must treat them as people, so they can see how the talk is talked, the walk is walked, the story is told and the game is played. There is a time for advice and a time for criticism, and we must not disregard the second option because it makes some of us uncomfortable. If the occasional outburst of annoyance and animosity is needed for growth than it must be allowed, if only to give these players glimpses of what people are thinking but would never dream of saying to their faces. NESing is a constantly evolving art that we all create, and it requires all of us to learn and adapt-new players the most. To be a NESer, one must show the ability to learn, to build up one's self, one's character(pun intended) and one's intellect. When Sp and Charles show this, and begin to make active strives to improve, I'll smile, sit back, and these sorts of comments will disappear until needed again.
