:egypt: The Egyptians :egypt:

slaves who werent acctually egyptians, but nubians and hebrews :p

yeah i voted egyptians :)

Two thoughts, each for one cent:
*A little, unconscious, partiality is only human.
*Intellectual honesty was one of their prime motives, I believe. (@Oda's post)

Bonus thought (this one is free):
*the Pyramids were built by the Egyptians, who thought of themselves as voluntary slaves.

This is the kinda of CRAP that us archaeologists have to deal with day. So i will dispell some rumors for you guys.
1. Egyptian laborers using corvee labor built the pyramids based on architecture borrowed from the Mesopotamians.
2. No such thing as Atlantians dispersing through the world after some calaticism which sun their home in the Atlantic. There is no possible evidence if you look at the sea floor for a previous continent as per description by plato. He was telling a story to show how a philosopher state was ideal and when taken from the phiolosphers of the bad stuff that would happen.
3. No connection between all the pyramids in the world. They have superficial similarities such as 4 sides but totally different architecture. Most of these so-called pyramids are just mounds of dirt. Also troughout the world pyramids have differen fuction and design.
4. No such thing as Ancient astronauts coming down to the world to start humanity and evidence from steles in Mesoamerica don't show what some people, namely Erik Von Dannigan-who btw has been convicted of fraud before and arrested and jailed, try to pawn off as being genuine.
5. The sasquatch cannot exist as there were no apes in the new world, only monkeys, before humans and separate evolution did not occur of them in the new world. Also there is no evidence of any type of ape in the archaeological record besides humans in the new world and for the past 28,000 years and by now we were bound to find something. If we can find pre-whales in the himalayas then we would have found a yeti fossil by now. Also you guys realize the people who claim to see sasquatch are hicks who drink moonshine and live in bear country. Bears stand on there two back feet to threaten and when they are threatened. For the yeti, people are in an environment where there is a complete white out and snow leopards are probably hunting them. they have white fur and in the snow distance is hard to judge so it maybe that these people are seeing leopards close up and they think it is a larger animal farther away.

There, now if you meet an archaeologist in the future do not waste his or her time with this stupid questions.:)

Also according to the archaeological evidence it was egyptians, NOT the hebrews who built the pyramids. They have graves for the workers and some texts that they had written so we know they were not slaves nor hebrews

Can I just say, with regards to the meaty question of precisely who built the pyramids and how, I am currently working on a theory which should demolish the currently accepted facts of egyptology, not to mention archaeology, and since Punkymonkey mentions it, palaeontology.

After years of research, I am now putting pen to paper under the working title of the 'giant radioactive green monkey hypothesis', and am looking for a publisher, though with little success.

Hopefully here my idea will not fall on deaf ears.

:)

Psht. Such ridiculous theories. Makes absolutely no sense.

I mean, everyone knows the giant radioactive monkeys who built the pyramids were BLUE...

Tsk, Tsk...When will it all end????;)

I'm saying the Egyptians. Sorry for being boring :p

But I do have one outstanding problem assuming that Egyptians were without external influence. The Egyptian writings show a race wearing scalemail armour, who were they?

They weren't Egyptian, Greek, Roman or any other civ I know of - each of those are represented by another known image.

I'm not going to suggest these unknown people influenced Egyptian architecture... I think that would be just ighorant... I just wanna know who the heck they were! :(

When are those depictions of people wearing scale armor?

Why would scale armor make a difference? Its only the worlds oldest, and most common type of armor(well save leater, and fabric padding...)

true, the myceaneans wore a type of scale armor

Hittites perhapes? When referring to the armor that is.

I believe it was the Egyptions by the hands of peasants respecting their Pharoh on an epic scale.

Not quite slaves and surely not paid laborers, these men built the pyramids. Of course one could argue that what began as patriotic volunteerism eventually eroded into forced labor at the point of a spear.

it's corvee labor. When the nile floods, the peasants have nothing to do. Therefore the pharaoh pays them to work with supplying food which was collected from before the flood. It's a form of tax on the people. The military usually also participates in corvee labor

actualley a type of scale armour made in polynesia, from sharks theeth has examples dating from the neolitithic period

I'm getting tired of people arguing the validity of the Bible. That topic has no place in this discussion. If you must continue it please go to a different thread.

First off, that debate (on the bible) has been done with for about two weeks, so there's no real point in telilng us now you're tired of it - we quit on that score two days ago.

Second off, when someone try to argue that things happened one way historically "because the bible say so", a discussion on wheter the bible can be considered a sufficient source to assert anything history-wise DO have a place in the discussion (as in, discussing wheter or not the source an assertion is based upon can be trusted).

Anyone who doesn't believe the Egyptians built the Pyramids must have something seriously wrong in with their brains... the Egyptian architecture and design is so obvious that it would be nearly impossible for them not to be.

The Sphinx on the other hand, is a completely different issue. From what I've read the Sphinx was possibly a monument constructed by a civilization predating the Egyptians and then later elaborated by them... however, so far that is only a theory based on very vague and far between facts followed up by a lot of assumptions.

Looks like the Discovery Channel needed something to boost its ratings. ;)

And hasn't anyone here ever READ the bible?!?!? The Jews (according to the Bible) were *brick makers* for f*ck's sake... not construction workers! The pyramids weren't even made out of brick; they were made out of STONE! Even if they were around at the same time of the Pyramid constructions I doubt if they would allow worthless slaves to construct something as important as them. (And history shows that the Pyramids were very precisely made (you can't fit a piece of paper between the blocks even today) indicating the work of highly trained (and paid) professionals, not slaves)

Also, "slave" as we know it is far too harsh a term to call what the Jews were... they were an oppressed minority at the most. According to the bible they had their own houses and towns and were pretty much free to do as they liked... they were just treated lower than your Average Joe-Egyptian. The "slavery" probably was referring to economical injustice. (Having to make bricks to support ones self when some Egyptians lived like gods...)

Anyhow, if the Jews did witness the construction of the Pyramids they probably wouldn't even care to mention it... by their thinking such pagan form of burial would have no place whatsoever in a religious book so they wouldn't bother putting it down in the first place.

For that reason, the Bible doesn't belong in this conversation.

He did, and like, 2, maybe 3 or 4 people adjusted their religious beliefs for non-political reasons accordingly. That's also quite a long time after the construction of the pyramids.

As for the actual topic, Aliens, of course. Isn't that what they taught in your schools?
