While we're all debating leaders, do you think it's time to retire the "Dan Quayle" political joke?

To those not familiar, Dan Quayle was Vice Pres. of the USA during the presidency of (the first) George Bush. He was always ridiculed in the media during the 90s; the "Dan Quayle" joke in Civ of course is that it is the lowest score you can earn on the scoreboard when the game completes.

But that is a very "early 90s" joke now--is it time a new politician should take that honor? Who would it be?

Not any recent politician/ruler, anyone from history (>100 years not alive anymore).

David Cameron, former UK prime-minister. Spent years pretending to be anti the EU to appease right-wingers. Called a referendum he didn't want, again trying to appease right-wingers, fought a weak campaign arguing to remain where he went against many things he had previously said, lost the referendum, and was forced to resign. Now, the British have to suffer the massive economic consequences of his actions, and the Scottish and Irish are talking about independence again, and so he has very likely caused the break up of the United Kingdom. They wouldn't make this choice because it is too current and political, but if I were asked who the worst politician of modern times was, it is clear that there are few who can match this man. Tony Abbot of Australia is up there too though.

Leave Dan Quayle alone. Now it's a historical joke instead.

Tamar of georgia? Or even catherine de medici ... ;D

Because of the hype Tamar should be mentioned if it won't make a future expansion. If it will be in the score list preferably not at the lowest place instead of Dan Quayle.

I think the thing about Dan Quayle is he was a meme before memes were a thing. :D It would have to be someone on that level. The Dan Quayle joke was obvious (at least to Americans) when it first came out, now I wonder if a lot of players would know who he is.

Actually, now that I think about it, Sarah Palin might fit.

I second David Cameron - started a thread on that a while ago but it got closed.

I never had any idea who Dan Quayle was.
Well, I know he was a USA politician, but never even checked who he is, what did he do, why would it be funny to have him as the lowest score.
Couldn't care less, IMO it's only a joke for people in the USA.
I would definitely replace him with a historical figure.
Maybe Nero or Caligula. Probably there are much fitting figures for the role than those.

There's a Snopes article that will tell you how Dan Quayle must have seemed like a funny choice to the developers back when. It was all very "pop culture" at the time.

Real short video that shows how Quayle got his reputation. Only 1:31 long.

What? A thread entirely dedicated to putting David Cameron at the bottom of the leader-board:D? Well, to be fair to the mods, David Cameron's failures are not exactly relevant to Civ 6!

Thanks, but as I said, couldn't care less.
No place for figures like him in a civ game, not for my taste.

But he's been in the game for a long time. :D Definitely since Civ IV, and I think before that too, but I can't confirm it. His is the score you get when you get totally wiped out.

With all the Hamilton hype going on, a petition to change it to Aaron Burr will almost certainly win.

So is Cameron kind of like Trump? Using people's fears and prejudices to gain political favor but not really understanding the repercussions of his stances? Can the US expect a Brexit level blunder if Trump is elected? Trump's already made comments that sound like the end of NAFTA...

I agree. It's Dan's time to go.
I wouldn't use any current or resent politician. There are always game buyers who like even those people. No reason to rub people the wrong way. Make it fun for all.
It could be replaced by just a term like Joker. It's a joke that you did so poorly.
The only time I get that rating is when I retire early.

I think it's Al Gore's time to not invent the internet too.
Do some research and reward the scientists and engineers who actually contributed to its success. Their names are ones people should learn.
Not these two, who no body cares about now.
