Just for fun. Share your ideas.

(No current leaders please, I don't want this to turn into a political debate)

England: George III / Henry VIII

Russia: Stalin / Ivan IV

Portugal: Maria I

Egypt: Cleopatra

Rome: Caligula

Mongols: Ghengis

China: Mao

Germany: Hitler

Khmer: Pol Pot

I allways thought Louis XIV was a horrible leader for france..

He waged war withouth reasons This resulted in to bankrucy of france

Eating and having lot of lovers and waging war thats what he did..

What do you mean with "worst", the worst leader to represent the civ or the leader who is the most evil leader of that civ kinda "worst"?

If it is the first then Ghenghis khan for Mongols would definitly not be the worst.

If we're talking actual worst, for England probably King John. Not very likely, I'll grant you, but worse than either of those.

oh and for France, Jeanne d'Arc of course, but if we restrict it to actual kings/heads of state then I'd say Louis XVI.

That's up to personal interpretation. I'm considering most murderous and/or psychotic/insane

For America, it would be a tossup between Warren G. Harding and James Buchanan as the worst. For crazy, Andy Jackson, of course.

Lol I see what you did there.....

America: Herbert Hoover +5 gold per turn during golden age/ -10 gold per turn during regular time.

America (Plausibile yet bad option) - Andrew Jackson

England - King Arthur special unit the Knights of the Roundtable

France - King Louis XVI - You lose complete control of civ when you enter enlightenment era

Russia - Rasputin - bonus to diplomacy

The North - Bran next to a werewood tree.....

If you consider what the leader tried to achieve and what the results were, then he was a very good leader.
He expanded the borders of the kingdom of France and set up a Bourbon on the throne of the most powerful country of Europe (Spain), and the current king of Spain is one of his descendants.
He led his country to bankruptcy, but that would be recovered in time.
In comparison, Catherine de Medici tried to make sure her dynasty would remain in power and failed (all her sons died, one of them because she had sent him away for plotting against his elders), tried to avoid internal strife and failed (her favorite son leading to St Barthelemy forcing a change in policies)... I think she would be well placed for worst French leader if she was a leader and Louis XVI wasn't worse.

Rome: Commodus

Kongo: King Leopold II

America: King George III... actually would be interesting to see the reaction if he would be announced as a DLC leader :D

America: James Buchanan. At any random point in the game your Civ is split in half, followed by an automatic declaration of war between the two halves. Diplomatic penalty to all female leaders.

France would have to be Charles the Mad.

If we're talking actual worst, for England probably King John. Not very likely, I'll grant you, but worse than either of those.

But he signed the Magna Carta...

This would make for a fun "Worst leaders" DLC.
"Will you be able to rehabilitate the image of these historical failures?" :D

America - James Buchanan
Aztecs - Tizoc
Brazil - Emilio Medici
China - Yang Guang / Shi Jingtang
Egypt - Akhenaten
England - Henry VIII
France - Louis XV / Philippe Pétain
Germany - Wilhelm II (because Hitler is boring)
Portugal - Sebastian I / Antonio Salazar
Rome - Elagabalus / Tiberius
Spain - Fernando VII / Francisco Franco

But he signed the Magna Carta...

...which only happened because he was such an unpopular and ineffective leader that his barons rose against him.

He also lost a lot of English lands in France, got himself excommunicated and the country placed under interdict, had his nephew murdered and even managed to lose the crown jewels.

King John would be on any shortlist for worst ruler of England. Other contenders (just noticed this list is pretty Plantagenet-heavy):
  • Aethelred the Unready - Lost England to the Danes; the name says it all, really
  • Richard I - His primary contribution to the welfare of England was forcing its people to cough up between 2-3 times the annual revenue of the kingdom to ransom him
  • Henry III - For much of his reign he was just a figurehead while Simon de Montfort was the de facto ruler, and he was too weak-willed to really do much about it
  • Edward II - Was overthrown by his wife Isabella of France and her lover Roger Mortimer, and no one was really very upset by this (as an added bonus: was a total douchenozel to his erstwhile-devoted wife, causing her to take a lover and rebel)
  • Edward III - I know, he doesn't really belong on here... but come on: Started the Hundred Years War (a useless conflict/series of conflicts which England ultimately lost) and laid the groundwork for the Wars of the Roses by making all of his sons powerful dukes
  • Richard II - Petty, petulant boy-king, some say an inspiration for King Joffrey; didn't really accomplish anything and was overthrown by his cousin
  • Henry VI - Effectively an invalid, his wife Margaret of Anjou was the de facto ruler while he just wished he could be a monk; was eventually overthrown (twice) by Edward IV
  • Richard III - Next to John, probably England's most well-known "villainous" king. He's been the subject of considerable revisionist work, so depending on your viewpoint he's either a standard child-murdering wicked uncle, or a complicated man in brutal times who took power because there was no other viable candidate. Either way, his personal shortcomings were enough to unite a force against him around Henry Tudor
  • Henry VIII - Perhaps the most famous example of why combining the domestic with the political is the worst aspect of monarchy; in all situations pursued his own, personal desires and family affairs at the expense of his kingdom and people. Destroyed and looted the old monasteries (how beautiful they must have been) and was perhaps the closest thing to a true tyrant England has ever known
  • Mary I - In hindsight, perhaps she would have reconsidered her "burn the heresy out" policy... but you know, I somehow doubt it; either way, she had no long-term impact on her country other than inspiring a nursery rhyme and encouraging the invasion of the Spanish Armada, and bore no children to continue her Catholic legacy, so her Protestant sister inherited
  • Charles I - Stubborn, obstinate, way too old-school for his time, didn't understand why his subjects wouldn't just kiss the floor beneath him and thank him for it, like the French king's subjects would; continued not understanding right until they lopped his head off for it
  • George III - Mad King George, what else is there to say?
  • Neville Chamberlain - This one's sort of unfair; really, Chamberlain here is a stand-in for the whole pre-World War II leadership which allowed Hitler free run of the board in Europe until stopping him would no longer be a manageable affair
  • David Cameron - Nearly lost Scotland, and then called a referendum he was sure he and his smug Oxbridge PR boys could win only to be smacked in the face by reality

I think that's a good list for now. :crazyeye:

Nero for Rome, Marie Antoinette for France, Tutankhamon for Egypt. The first two would be cool tho.
