WHoward's Pick 'N' Mix Mods

That's a shame, I've always liked your mods and have been using them since day 1 of the workshop. I've always found them to be consistently high-quality and never had a single problem with your code or with the steam workshop. I had a really great game going, but I guess that will be broken now. Sadly, even if you bring your mods back online I most certainly will never play with them again, if there's any chance they could be pulled from the workshop and suddenly break my game.

Just add yourself to the list of people who blame the modders for errors in Firaxis' code base then.

Firaxis have no right for their code to remove anything from your computer without your permission, so you need to report it as a bug to Firaxis. Me pulling MY mods from the Steam Workshop should not have deleted them from YOUR computer without you agreeing to it.

Circumstances change. Firaxis truly f***ed up the mod browser in the 1.0.2.12 update and then showed their apathy and distain towards mod users when it took them the best part of a month to release a patch (1.0.2.21) which was supposed to fix the mod browser issues but only made them different.

I've had enough with the c**p I regularly read (and delete and blocked usesr for) in the comment threads on my mods - that my mods won't install, don't work, delete themselves, crash saved games, etc, etc. And some extreamly unpleasant PM's from so called game fans. EVERY single one a Firaxis/Steam problem.

So I am voting with my feet and I have walked away from Steam Workshop forever - it is much, much worse than the GameSpy ModHub ever was (and that's saying something) - the player experience is terrible, confusing and inconsistent; the front-end UI integration is truely abysmal and so poorly coded as to not be able to cope with network outages and disconnects; the tools in ModBuddy are also slow, fail on intermittent connections and are totally unable to gracefully handle errors. Nice idea, 1/10 for effort.

W

That's a real shame that you have to deal with that; I can't believe players actually PM you too!

Yeah, I really wish there was a way to lock the comment section of mods because some players are really obnoxious (don't like it or agree with it? Then don't subscribe and move along...), post moronic questions/requests, and/or cry "Bug!" and point the finger so quickly before even putting in any effort to isolate the problem or disable all the other mods they have running at the same time -- it just tarnishes the image of your mod when others browse over to it. :crazyeye:

it took them the best part of a month to release a patch (1.0.2.21) which was supposed to fix the mod browser issues but only made them different.
Didn't noticed bugs in the mod browser since the fix patch, but sure enough it took them long enough to release a "hot fix" :spank:
I've had enough with the c**p I regularly read (and delete and blocked usesr for) in the comment threads on my mods - that my mods won't install, don't work, delete themselves, crash saved games, etc, etc. And some extreamly unpleasant PM's from so called game fans. EVERY single one a Firaxis/Steam problem.
Sadly, it seems like silly comments and immature behaviour are common issues in just about every online community now (and sometimes you would be surprised how old some of the people showing an immature behaviour are  ). That's the main reason i tend to stick to single player games.
People are so quick to criticise other people's work when themselves are unable to do half of that work. Even true bugs shouldn't lead to the rude comments i sometimes read.
So I am voting with my feet and I have walked away from Steam Workshop forever
As long as your mods stay available somewhere for us to download (as they currently are here on CFC), i couldn't care less. It's really a non issue for us to download mods with our web browser and unpack them manually.

Thanks for all the mods you released. Thanks for adding useful feature to the core C++ code. I just hope you don't turn away from modding completely, this would be a huge loss for the community that still has plenty of nice people, even when they don't post often.

I'm sad to see your depaparture from the workshop as it has for my part mostly been a very nice feature. I particularly enjoy the ease of updating mods, and will in the future miss this feature from your mods I have in use.
It's very unfortunate that some mod feedback makes you feel that the lacks in Steam/firaxis code is being blamed on you. Though I cannot say I don't think the complete removal of your mod catalogue from the official workshop is a peculiar move, but you must of course do with your work as you see fit.

After manually adding the mods I were using, my save is working fine.

As always, great work with the mods, "Trade Opportunities" is absolutely essential for my enjoyment of the game.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I blame you for anything. You wrote the mods and gave them to the community for free. I'm grateful for that and you don't owe me anything, and if you're fed up with Firaxis it's your right to pull them. All I'm saying is from now on I'll be sticking to using mods whose authors don't have a history of pulling them off the workshop.

Where could I find the descriptions of your mods to find out - what exactly each mod does?

Speaking of which... where is the Trade Opportunities mod? Also, I've downloaded some like DiploCorner, and they come up in the game's Mods list, but I now can't find them on the screen.

Probably also under UI

Having only used the in game system to install mods i have no idea how to manually install a mod to the game, can anyone show me how?

As for removing them from the workshop. I would ask if having them on the workshop is a technical issue you are having or simply as a way of protest at Firaxis/Steam/because of negative comments because if it is the latter it would seem the only people you are punishing are the people who have used and enjoyed your great mods, in particular people who have saved games who rely on mods you have supplied to be able to continue playing them.

Luckily for me the mods i am using in my current game do not fall into that category and the current situation is at worst a great inconvenience but surely you could understand the great frustration of people who are not as lucky as me and why they are the people you are really hurting by the current situation, most particularly the people who don't follow forums like this and all they know is mods have simply disappeared with no idea how to even attempt to remedy the situation.

As for removing them from the workshop. I would ask if having them on the workshop is a technical issue ...

If you read my initial posts the answer will be obvious ...

There is a tutorial somewhere, but I can't find it at the moment

1) Download the zipped group from the CFC Downloads Database
2) Unzip it
3) Find the .civ5mod file for the mod you want
4) Using WinRar or 7Zip unzip that into your "C:\Users\{username}\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Mods" sub-directory (or whereever Civ5 caches your mods to)

job done

Thanks for the info. I will keep a personal copy of all my mods from now on so i can reinstall them personally if needs be.

When i had issues with G&K I didn't blame the modders. I blamed 2k. The consist freezing and crashing...such annoyance. One of the members trying to push blame on the modders. Modders didn't the game. With my fustration on G&K i went and i'm playing vanilla mods.

Whohoward I have always used your mods. Test some when i had the annoyances with G&K freezing and crashing. Not blamed you for it...I blamed 2k.

You may get the heat from others...But thank you for hard work in creating the mods.

I didn't even know about step 4... I just put the .civ5mod file in the MODS directory and it seems the game unpacked it by itself when I enabled it in the front-end.

Anyway, new to the forum, to to Civ 5 (new to Civ in fact), so hello and thank you for the awesome mods :) You should use a kickstarter or something, maybe that would make the pain of Steam more tolerable (and these mods are so good as to definitely be worth paying for - and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks so)

Someone asked earlier where they could find descriptions of the all the mods - is there a list anywhere, now that they've disappeared off steamworks?

Most have threads either here or on the 2K forums. For the time being Google will have to be your friend.
