Why are so many people in this country so ignorant?

First off.. where was this poll taken? Country Wide..? Or in one of the more.. uhh less educated places..?

Ok I read the article and it seems like it was based in the south well thats interesting.

Why do I come here? Nobody listens to me. I did mention something about human immorality awhile back.

It's all certainly no match for ignorance. And especially definitely no match for the person or people who don't verify their claims.

Are you talking about Christ returning or general creationism? The former is a personal opinion that cannot at all be proven.

I believe if we are going to teach evolution, we should teach some form of intelligent design as well, just to keep things even and allow people to choose for themselves what to believe.

And apparently that makes me "Stupid."

No we shouldn't. Evolution is a scientific theory based on massive amounts of evidence, and this theory serves a purpose in numerous fields related to biology and medicine.

Intelligent design serves no purpose other than to serve as an outlet to vent the misguided rage of snubbed creationists. Intelligent design is not a "science". It is a religious explanation that if taught at all, needs to be thought in a religious school. We shouldn't forcefully indoctrinate our kids with religious propaganda. Intelligent Design does not even qualify as a theory or psuedo-science. It has no place in our schools.

Or would you rather have the schools waste their time teaching about The Flying Spaghetti Monster also?

Well, the Flying Spaghetti Monster was an attempt at trolling religious people. It was funny but rude. And no it should not be taught in school.

By intelligent design, I don't mean the precise Biblical account, simply the idea that the Earth is young, macroevolution did not happen, and that some greater being created it. After that, they can figure out for themselves who they think that someone is. And if they don't believe anyone did, evolution is also being taught so they can also choose to believe in that. And both should be taught as theoretical ideas, not facts.

Or at the very least, teach evolution alone as a possible theory and not a fact.

@Traitorfish- I agree, I just think its insulting to call people who believe that "Stupid." I surely wasn't suggesting it belongs in a classroom:lol:

Now, saying the Holocaust didn't happen or the US got independence for France or that Washington's family lived in America for 5,000 years, that would be stupid because that is denying fact. Stating that you believe evolution didn't happen is not necessarily denying fact, and saying you believe God will intervene in the future is certainly not denying fact.

And if Christian creationist fables are going to be taught in our school we damn well better be teaching Native American and Hindu creation myths also.

If enough people in our country ACTUALLY BELIEVED that then I agree.

The truth is, there is no proven way the world was made, so we should avoid talking about it in terms of "This is right and that is wrong."

But, if in India they taught Hinduist Creationism as a THEORY, I'd be OK with it.

Tyranny of the majority, then? Not very libertarian of you.

Do you really think that with the massive amounts of people likely to be involved in such a discovery and the subsequent research that they could keep it a secret? I have no faith in our government's ability to keep such an incident secret.

I don't think we've had contact with space aliens, but it is plausible. Governments lie about a lot of things and we're just finding out about some of them, like the despicable STD experiments in Latin America. Those had a lot of people involved who kept quiet.

As far as research, we could just have NASA or the Pentagon claiming they discovered things that they really learned from the aliens.

Eh, to be fair, most countries have something stupid like Creationism bouncing around. There's a whole cottage industry in Australia committed to denying that the Stolen Generation even occurred.

Well, what do you call an opinion that contradicts facts?

Depends. Does it deny FACTS or does it deny THEORIES.

That the Holocaust happened is fact. That the Nazis invaded Poland is fact. That the United States fought a Civil War is fact. That white Americans are not indigenous to this continent is fact. That the Revolutionary War happened is fact. That Egypt had a civilization on the Nile in Ancient Times is fact.

That something supposedly happened before anyone could write about it IS NOT FACT:mad: It's a theory, and in this case a rather flawed one. And it doesn't have much to do with science anyway, so the issue can just be ignored in school.

And I'd go for Traitorfish's suggestion of the Norse myths too. After all, we still name many of our days of the week after some of those gods and goddesses, and our children have a right to know.

Well funnily enough, it was the BRITISH Empire, not the ENGLISH Empire that we won independence from.

This is how these polls work, and they are looking to capitalize on such colloquialisms. They ask you who we gained Independence from from and most people use "England" while the pollsters only count "British Empire" or some such as a correct answer. T

Thus you get the low number you were looking for.

No, its you being too picky. It would be like docking for saying America instead of United States of America. OMG AMERICA IS NOT JUST THE US!!! You know damn well what the person meant, but you put on airs to pretend you are superior.

saying america doesnt exclude anyone within the usa, calling the uk england is forgetting the welsh, scots and northern irish exist and like saying they contribute nothing, and almost furthers the crazy mel gibson inspired omg the english forced scotland into the union thing, so its more like just calling the USA california just because thats the state with the most people
