Every major religion these days assumes God is good. What up with that?

Why ain't God evil?

And remember, the Bible/Koran/Talmud could be lies from God's evil little mouth!

cuz boobies are so beautiful that an evil being couldn't have possibly created them?

Partially because God is wrapped up in the morality of the Abrahamic religions. Though this could be a chicken/egg relationship. The thing is God makes sense of morality and so it seems to me is somewhat of a consequence of a belief in objective morality. And since morality is centered on what is good by definition then the idea that God is could follows.

Well even under that idea, God could certainly lie and make us believe false morals, or give us true morals but not act in accordance with them.

Psychology. The evil gods ultimately don't give the people what they want in a religion, so they are forgotten.

“Why assume God is good?"

Why assume the Renaissance is good?
Why assume the Republic idea is good?
Why assume the democracy is good?
Why assume those aboriginals are good and innocent?
Why assume modern style life is good?
Why assume the western values are good?
Why assume the third world is oppressed and the first world should be buried with guilt?
In all:
Why assume the humanity is good?

Sorry for the cynicism.

Well, in those cases plarq we all know that they have both good and bad qualities and we do have some idea what they are (and can explore then through empirical means).

But I was referring to the underlying concepts and assumptions that are involved in God and morality. As an example of this, every humans' sense of morality being only fully understood as the knowledge of God's will and the effect of his authority on us even in our fallen state, allowing us to know His will which is Good as opposed to what is against his will aka evil.

Nobody wants to believe that God is evil. This is so unpleasant. :( Besides, an evil God simply doesn't worth believing in. ;)

Althrough different human beings can understand the world "Evil" differently. Some extreme fundamentalists beleive in kind, loving, merciful God who in His infinite mercy sends 99% of world population to Hell. Sound rather evil to me, but not to them! :p

The only thing worse than their being no god would be there being an evil god.

What's so 'good' or 'bad' about God anyways if he has no influence on what affects us? ......though our ideas of God have both good and bad influences.... so why indeed is God good and not bad or neither?

assuming of course there is God....

Well, there's the whole afterlife mess.

Why assume there is a god? That is what my answer is- another question

Yep. One of the main reason people follow religion is to remain hopeful. No one (alright, hardly anyone) wants to follow an evil god. It's just too depressing.

Ahh yes, and still theres the conundrum about god sending us to hell for not being able to follow his rules about how we should conduct ourselves using our own free will....which then doesnt make it free will but hey ya you are free to do either or but if you do or its to hell with you sinner!

what's so Good about Good I wonder?
