Why assume God is good?

-Is this true that when you are asked a question, you reply also with question?
-Who told you such a strange thing?

Another question is not an answer.

Okay my answer is

Its pointless to speculate because god is a made up thing that you can give whatever properties you like

Its like talking about what magical crystals can and can't do

But if that answer sucks then here is the real answer

Judging by the characteristics that god is given, I beleive god is pretty much an evil dude, either that or simply a powerless being that isn't god anyway

Either way, god being love is a bunch of crap by sheer logic alone

According to the religion, God has created everything. God has the power to do everything.
So if God is evil, why do we exist ?

You're taking it to the extreme, when there is no need to.
Perfectly good humans don't exist either, but there are no perfectly evil ones.

God can be petty and we could still exist.

Why assume God is good?
Great question. Unfortunately no way to make any meaningful headway with the question until the question "What is 'Good'?" is answered.

Islam and Christianity. I don't know about Judaism.
Oh yea. Wierd people. :crazyeye:
I'm not so sure about Islam tho. I got my concept of God from the chapters about Islam. My memory is a bit fuzzy on where how what - i'll go look. :)

In every single Surah, the Koran calls god "The Benificent, the Merciful" and other cute adjectives. Yes, Islam thinks god is good.
Yea, i recall that almost all of the 99+1 names of Allah being nice and goodie. Yet i have no clue how i found my god there. I'll check when i get the chance and post back here. :)

If Christ is willing to suffer and die to save me, I'd assume he cares about my well-being.

By the way, there are plenty of religions with evil gods, primarily Hinduism and other polytheistic religions.

I get the impression God is indifferent rather than good or evil, but I do wonder as well why people automatically and blindly assume God is good.

Because even abused children love their parents, and believe that theyre good.

Other than the fact that Hinduism is not necessarily polytheistic, that is by far one of the main advantages of non-monotheistic religions - it completely avoids all of the various philosophical problems with a benevolent, ominpotent, and omniscient god.
