Why can't I "Search"?

Yes, it is better that only mods have the power to delete posts and threads...

maybe you could grant users the ablility to delete their post if it's the last post in a thread ;)

Nah - the nosy crowd always wants to know the reasons behind thread closure.;)

ok, questionable formulation

"If the action "post this post" is the last action in this thread, the user is allowed to delete his post, if any action follows (thread split, clos, post, etc.pp, he isn't allowed anymore" ;)

I understand that search puts a strain on the server. But I think 'view recent posts', at least on your own account, should be enabled without too much loadincrease. It's frustrating that I have to manually go through threads to find my old posts.

Come to think of it, I may have restrictions on my account - because I can't see the msg you're referring to when you try to search, my msg is this:

You do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons.:

1. You do not have permission to access the page that you were trying to. Are you trying to edit someone else's post or trying to access administrative features? Check that you are allowed to perform this action in the Forum Rules.

2.If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I can't understand that since I've not done anything to warrant restricting my account on theese boards.

Singularity:
if you subscribe to every thread you post in, you can easily find your old messages when you click on user cp.
Default setting here: list threads if new posts have been made since last log-on.
But you could change that to 'show last 3 months' (or use other sort options), in case you want to dig up older stuff.
I guess that's roughly the same what you describe as 'view recent posts'.

Keeping track on on own posts is much easier with this method, even if search was enabled (the latter takes much longer anyways and you have to type in the right search term).

Is there a script we could write that says "If there are fewer than X people logged on, search is enabled"?

Even in the dead of the US night, and the very early morning of Europe, I've noticed we'll still have at least 100 people logged on. :)

Propably some never log off... Or then they are maniacs. Which is actually in this situation the same thing. ;)
