Why do they don't count?

Why do the Demogame-RPG posts don't count? I can understand that when it first started the auctions were pretty bad (as there was posts that was just "I Bid 700g), but now that it's been going for awhile it's not as spammy and.... ahh.... Why don't they count?

Well if you want my opinion, none of postcounts counts for much of anything.

I knew I could count on your acount of post count.

Strider,

Post count does not count for much of positive value, but you can use the statistic of average lines of discussion per post as an indicator.

Your lucky that most of the posts in Demo game count since their average message content is the lowest level of any of the forums and mimics chatroom usage in most instances.

I believe the RPG forum was disabled to allow it to function basically as a chat room whithout being subject to the same spam rules that apply in other areas.

It's not that you don't count; its just the spam and chat really does not count for much.

Heh.... Your VERY wrong there.... The demogame forum has threads full of HUGE posts.

You are very wrong here, cracker. Well, except for the RPG, anyway.

Regardless, post count doesn't matter much at all.

What is defined as 'spam and chat' in the RPG goes for a lot of other forums ("did you get the save?", "I don't like France","Well if you want my opinion, none of postcounts counts for much of anything."), and some poll threads in GD or strategy in particular. Therefore, if there should be a seperation between the RPG and the remainder of CFC, it could be just as well based on civ related content.

No PC for OT, story forum, site feedback... (hey, let's ditch PC altogether!)

I think he meant the RPG portion only. The Demogame itself is very much 'normal' posts.

The RPG is very much "normal" posts to. The RPG is mainly full of huge price lists and stories.

The RPG auctions are the only thing close to spammy and those have already been changed.

They don't count because they used to be spam and they still do not improve the site exactly. Basically alot of posts are spam and once you cross the line its hard to go back.

That's the whole point.... ALOT of posts are spam.... So why target just one forum? A forum that gets maybe 15 posts a day that are mainly just stories?

One consideration is that if you re-allow PC for the RPG subforum, you'll bring back all the old PC for all those old RPG posts people complain about.

Maybe TF will reconsider when Civ3 Demo Game 3 is up. ;)

Would it make a differance? I mean the Humor & Jokes forum is full of posts with just . Because RPG posts don't count does that mean Humor & Jokes shouldn't to? Plus the other forums that are about the same?

Well, IIRC, PC for the RPG subforum was discounted 'cause many people were complaining. But nobody is complaining, presently, about H & J or other forums. If you want other forums to be subjected to similar scrutiny, raise your own ruckus. ;)

Good luck!

Though posts with just smilies are illegal. Just that the mods got their hands full with OT, to have the time to scrutinise everywhere. ;)

Posts with just smilies are not necessarily "illegal". Sometimes, the only appropriate response is :rotfl:.

But they should be used appropriately. And a poster's history is also considered. A poster who has 300 posts, consisting entirely of  will not be given the leniency as one who has just 50, but 50 "solid" posts.

As to the topic of this thread - yeah, a lot of folks complained about the postcount skyrocketing of people whose posts were mostly "I bid 650g" and "thanks". While there are many "postcount-worthy" posts, the "pseudo-spam" far outweighed them. The way it is, now, those of us in the RPG can post "ON-topic spam" within the RPG, without getting a "rep-hit" with the rest of the forums.

Situtation, or sometimes with a history of the poster. We had one poster who tried to be the last poster on every thread on the first page of the humor forum by poster  s and variations of appluse posts. In addition to a restriction, he was thereafter prohibitted from posting applause of other substatially no content posts in the humor forum. He was only allowed to post jokes and other humor content.

Exactly my point in my second paragraph, Lefty. ;)

Once, at another site, I posted a response that consisted of a single smiley. Immediately, some of the old hands began complaining about the "spam post". Then the site admin came on and agreed that it was the best response I could have made.

About the only thing about post counts is waiting *forever* to get your 300th post. I had to wait months to get to my 300th, but if RPG posts had counted, I probably would've had my avatar nearly two months ago. And my RPG posts are *not* spam. Some of those RPG threads take a heck of a lot of time to post, write, and maintain: I see no reason why the DG:RPG should be singled out.

Whatever have you been doing? :)

Check with the masters on how it's done, legally (you know who you are :p). Come to the OT - and participate. You'll get your 300 in no time at all. ;)

Hell, no. I once made just such a single smiley post as a response, and AoA came down on me like the present blizzard hitting the US East Coast, with an explicit warning not to do it again. ;)

It was my first and last attempt at such...
