I saw several polls about your favorite civ, so I thought maybe this question is intressting too ;)

So the question is why do you prefere a certain civ

I pick the romans becouse of their pretorian, sometimes i pick saladin to get an early religion for gold.

I always play random.. for now.

I voted "other".

I prefer variety, but while I play Random often, I also often pick (various) leaders, to get a certain flavor of gameplay. I sometimes also pick the opponents, too. (To increase or decrease the stiffness of competition, based on how well certain leaders/UUs/traits match with a given map script.)

- Sirian

I like to play as civilizations that I am fond of or admire. These would include Russia, China, Japan, Aztecs and Rome.

I usually pick 'em for the trait combination, because I like to have one that matches my playstyle. I usually play quite peaceful games, so UU is not a big factor for me, except in the case of India(Fast workers are great - especially in my last game when I started alone on a large island covered with jungle)

I think I can see the appeal of random, because it forces you to try out new playing styles to use your given traits in the best way, rather than being stuck in a particular strategy that goes with a particular set of traits. I've probably grown much too fond of Saladin's traits, and a specialist/GP favouring strategy. I rarely play others than Saladin and Gandhi, come to think of it...

So, random for me next game, I think.

I picked other. I often pick countries I just like, but sometimes it's the leader that matters to me. For example, I like Napoleon, but I don't like France. That doesn't qualify as traits, though, because I can't even remember Napoleon's traits.

I pick my civ for political reasons...just kidding. I check out my liquor cabinet...if I drink vodka I play the Russians, Wine , depends from where Greeks, Romans, Cognac France Beer Americans Germans ( again depends where the beer is from) This way I get the full flavor of the civ and when things go really bad I get to learn and practice a few words from that civ...I have agreat time!!

cheers!!

I don't have a favourite civ. When starting a game, I will look at the list and say, "Who do I feel like playing this time?".

Trait combination for me:o.

Sounds like me.

I usually use Catherine because everything matches up well with my style of play: Creative and Financial are my favorite traits, Cossacks come at the exact time when I'm ready to start killing people, and I like starting with the ability to make Scouts.

Every now and then, though, I'll get sick of never being able to grab any of the first 6 religions and will use Isabella for a game or two :D

I always play Catherine and I'm usually the first to discover Christianity and most of the time Islam.

For now, at least, I play as the Americans, not so much because I am an American, but more so because the Americans are under played, and I rather like Fin/Org. Not many people play that trait combo, at least from what I've seen.

Yeah, Islam usually isn't hard to get, but I somehow never end up bothering with the early religious line...so a religion for me is usually plain luck :undecide:
