I'm wondering why you OT posters post. I mean, to a non-forumer, and someone who isn't very computer-literate, it would seem like a big waste of time. So why do you post?

I thought the same thing. Some people don't understand that talking to people online IS talking to people, pretty much the same as in real life...

He beat me to it...

Knowledge and varying points of view are pretty important things in life.

And I enjoy talking to people down the street all around the globe.

My knowledge base and writing skills have increased substantially since I began posting on various forums a year ago. Actually, when I look back at my older posts, it's amazing the difference CFC has made.

Well, the attraction for me is the same as was mentioned earlier: interesting discussions with interesting people. I also feel that the forum is a medium for discussion and debate that is superior to oral conversation.

However, the only reason that I have had time to involve myself so much in the last 4 months is my boring job in front of a computer. Today is my last day :( I'm going back to class, and have accepted a couple of volunteer responseabilities that are likely to keep me very busy over the coming semester. I'm sure I'll pop back in occasionally, but my 10 post days are over for now...

(Italics mine.) I love the way you put that, col.

THAT is one of the reasons I post here! :D I can interact with people from all over the world, as easily as I can with my co-workers.

I like that you can start a "conversation" about almost anything and people will give you their opinions alot more readily than in "real life". The forum environment is nice because people can have the space to be honet and time to think about what they have to say. The worst thing that can happen on CFC is a disagreement and maybe a ban for a few days. This is free speech at its best!

Also, I find it really nifty to be able to converse with people from across the globe. Think about it, you can post a poll when you wake up and then boil some water for tea. By the time your tea is ready and you're back at your comp. you have the opinions six people : from Texas, Sweeden, Russia, Brasil, Australia and some guy who happens to live 12 blocks away. How cool is that?

Yep :goodjob:
And CFC is a great source for opinions and point of views from loads of places around the world.

It's easier to "talk" in a forum because people don't inturrupt you in the middle of some philisophical milestone or in the middle of trying to make an arguement. :ack:

Having to rely on your immediate physical location to provide interesting conversational partners is too depressing to contemplate.

My sentiments exactly

Also this is a good place to get help with problems (such as computer problems)

Exactly, except I don't drink tea.:)

Because It's the only place where others don't avoid listening to my sometimes boring crazy monologues.
(Certainly, it's not the real cause)

Because I imagine people I'm talking to on net in the way I like them to be. Besides, it's very hard to find a person in non-virtual life that would have the same interests you do. Here on CFC the total number of forumers (>25000) can easily solve this problem.
