Why is everyone from Sheffield?

As long as the written English is proper American, without all of those superfluous vowels, I'm fine with it. :D
Civ VI has separate options for spoken narration language and text language. For example, one can have Polish text and German (Germany) spoken narration.

Thus, it would be possible to have English (United States) text and English (United Kingdom) spoken narration or one can have English (United Kingdom) text and English (United States) spoken narration.

As an American barbarian, I recognize the accent as English, but I had no idea where in England. And for some reason, here in America, a Documentary narrated by an English accent seems more high class, even though some of the words are spoken in a funny way.

I was chatting with a guy who flew over from England for an install at work and I said "hey, do you guys sometimes have a hard time understanding the Scots?" - he said "I was at a train station in Newcastle next to a couple of old guys talking and I would have sworn it was foreign language. I understood every 4th word."

Well, duh. "Highlander" was never released over there. Obviously.

A lot of the accents in England are starting to blend together. The "Slight Northern accent" you picked up could have been from somewhere else.

It is true that the further north you go generally the more every vowel sounds like a "U" and hard consonants are dropped more and more, but London and Southern England has regional accents with some of those traits as well.
