Why is the 18 civ cap limit not raised!?

What should be done with the 18 civ cap limit?

Exactly my idea. If the difference between 18 and 24 is big enough for Firaxis to keep the "official" limit at 18, why is the difference between 18 and 10 or an even smaller number insignificant?

Because any data member which relies on another data member (take diplomacy for instance) is exponential, not linear.

IE: 2 civs = 2 diplomacy links (back and forth). 3 civs = 6 diplo links. 8 civs = 49 diplo links. 18 civs = 289 diplo links. 32 civs = 961 diplo links.

Disclaimer: my mass is probably wrong, but diplo links is:
A = (B-1)^2 where A is diplo links and B is number of civs in game.

Therefore, the jump from 18 to 24 is massive compared to the jump from 10 to 18.

Here's a good test, no numbers, but hey!

I've recently played a game in MULTIPLAYER using 24 civs (4 were human). Very little, if any, load time difference ( though i admit it was hard to tell, it WAS a huge map). The game lasted until about chemistry/rifling(for me at least) without any uneccesary hiccups, though.

(Note that *no change* means in addition to the normal amount of game lag that adding a civ requires(making move), and talks about the so-called(cap limit) having an affect on gameplay besides taht of number of civs)

Most people don't seem to realise that removing the limit doesn't mean your game will now run slowly. If it runs too slowly, then don't play with that many civs - simple. I'd like to be able to have as many civs in the game as I'd like/as many as my computer can handle. Everyone's computer has different capabilities, which is why there shouldn't be a limit.

There are probably those who have a pc that can handle 24 limit with little difficulty. I've played around with Rhye's 24 civ Earth map a little and haven't notice much difference.

A question then arises:

do minor civs (they have no diplomacy, just war/peace setting) count?
If you have 20 civs and 10 minor civs, the total is 361 or 841?
