Why is the world hostile to Christians?

Simple enough. Take me for instance, I'm a fairly young guy, have a normal job, wife and two kids. I have BBQ's, birthday parties, watch football and baseball, and drive an average joe car. Everything about me has middle America and average joe written all over it except one thing, I'm a Christian. That is a believer in Christ who tries with God's grace to live a life pleasing to Him and according to His will for me. So the question is "Why is the world hostile towards me?"

I know the biblical answer, but would very much be interested in the views of "unbelievers". Not necessarily hostile ones either, just in general.

i think its more why have the christians in power been so hostile to the world

i have absolutely no problem with ordinary christians, its just people like the Texas Republican Party that just.....well lets not get into it, somebody on here has a link to something about them

Barely anyones hostile towards moderate or light christians except for maybe extremist athiests or extremist muslims. The main concern is the extremist christians and the ones with backwards beilefs and moronic sects (Mormonism or Jehovas witnesses ring a bell? ). I dont really care about the moderate christians anyway. The neo con christians are the ones that piss me off.

a) because I have personally been let down by the 'promise' of Christianity, and seek revenge on the idea itself
- this is not a 'good' thing, and I try to quell this urge, because I recognize that it is a bigoted view.

b) because Christians seek to limit my activities based on their morality, which is not internally consistent, and causes me to suffer more than I think is warranted.

edit:
c) because I believe that my world would be better if there were no fundamentalist religious people, and seek to reduce their numbers.

Actually, 9 times out of 10 I'm glad that someone is a Christian, because they're easier to get along with than 'normal people'. But their hypocrisy (when I see it) bothers me more than most because of a).

Umm.... I'm hostile to people who disagree with me in the context in which they are disagreeing with me. If I were to go to one of your BBQs I wouldn't be hostile towards you...

Does that answer your question?

EDIT: OMG TEH SPAM

I'm a Christian, so the answer may not be right.

I myself tend to get upset with some Christians. There are too many Christians out there that try to force their religion on you. The religion teaches to convert all people, and so some Christians force themselves onto people who don't want to hear it.

All of the above.

Most christians i repeat are not like that. Dont get mad at the moderate christians for what the extremists do.

Note: I am not christian myself.

Actually i was preety sure at least before the catholic church came to power that christianity was very tolerent and did not try to convert others. But i may be wrong.

I hate for this to take this off topic, but would you mind clarifying the difference between moderate and extreme christianity? Nice feedback too ;)

extreme Christian is to Christian as Terrorist is to respectable muslim

does that even make sense?

Actually, 'most Christians' spout the lies that originally betrayed me. In addition 'most Christians' encourage legislation that I find immoral. So in that regards, my bias is fair.

However, I can also acknowledge that 'most Christians' give to charity and treat people with compassion. 'Most Christians' have moral values that I approve of (that "do unto others" bit is actually quite pleasant to deal with), on the whole.

It's a balanced package, often coming out in favour of the Christian (ie, I'd rather have a Christian for a neighbor than not), but I don't like being exposed to their ideas, because the 'root' of their ideas bothers me.

Moderate christians: Christians who beileve in evolution and dont take most stuff from the bible literally and dont live thier life by the bibles passages, aside from some of the 10 commandments.

Extremist christians: Christians who make an effort to make others life miserable by pressing for legislation on morality that is only concerned with christianity and not common morals. Or those who take most if not everything from the bible literally as the word of god and follow there life by it no matter how irrelevent it is today. They also try to push others to their beilefs and have problems with taboos in society and view gays as sinners and such. Thats what i beileve is the definition. Add or note anything i missed. :)

I don't even know what this means. All Christians were Roman Catholic until the Greek Orthodox Church split in 1054, right?

Well maybe you see different people then i do. Most of the people i know around my town are not hardcore christians and most of them dont even go to church every sunday. They also are very tolerent of gays and just really follow the basic morals of christianity that very few people object to.

If you think the world, or in particular US society is particularly hostile to Christians I'm afraid you're deluding yourself.

If I may offer a slightly humorous rebuttal to the notion that Christianity in the United States is treated with anything less than a broad degree of acceptance please take a look at the link below

El_M how were you betrayed? PM me if you want, I am interested in what man can do that makes people turn away from God.

BTW, I think Christians are reviled simply because the stand for something. Also the fact that people absolutely hate the concept of personal responsiblity.
