Win 7 x64 + steam + HiTM - cannot load saved game

I just built a new computer and it far exceeds minimum requirements. The OS is Windows 7 x64. To facilitate installation, and to save bandwidth, I followed the recommendations found on a bulletin board: I installed steam on the new computer, logged into my account, let steam update, exited steam, them copied the steam directory from the old computer to the new. (The only difference worth noting is that on the old computer, the installation directory was c:\Program Files\steam and on the new, it is d:\steam.) After copying and updating the short-cuts, BTS + HiTM, ran just fine.

After playing for some period, I saved the game. When I tried to load the save, the game crashed, however, I was able to load an earlier backup of the game. After playing some more, I again saved the game. Currently, I cannot load any of the recently saved games.

I checked the Event log and found the following error.

Level Date and Time Source Event ID Task Category

Can you please suggest what I might do to try to resolve this problem?

Thank you.

Edit:

Sounds like a but in HiTM. Almost assuredly something in the LSystem based on the behavior.

I ran into what sounds like the same problem. I have Windows 7 64-bit, just bought Civ 4, no expansion packs or anything.

Played the game for a few hours yesterday, was my first game, minus going thru a little of the tutorial... Got almost all the way thru the game, was a few turns away from winning thru the space race and the game just closed itself. So, I tried to reload an autosave of the game and it just closes the game, have tried it several times.

I haven't downloaded any types of patches or anything yet, first time reading up on any of the tech support or anything for the game. I could use some help too.

You need to download the patches then, Civ4 on initial release was a bit buggy (like most software these days).

I'm also sure your problem is not the same as the OPs, as the OP's crash is caused by a mod, an is almost assuredly something bad in one of that mod's LSystem files based on it's behavior.

I now had just loaded a auto save game from about 3 minutes earlier to the game that would not save and was able to run thru and complete the game w/o issues. Weird.
