I have looked to see if this question has been addressed or not and could not find it.
Will CIV V play on the new windows 8 OS?

Seeing as how Windows 8 is just Windows 7 with a ******** tablet UI, I'm not seeing any major compatibility problems. But if you haven't used Windows 8, you probably don't want to.

Windows 8= Windows Vista 2

There maybe some minor annoyance to get old games running properly. I am thinking right away about Civilization 3, which run on a 16-bit software.

Most popular softwares that run on IA-32 and x64 processors in Windows 7 will be the same as Window 8.

Don't rush to conclusions my friend.

As to the OP: I remember seeing on Microsoft's site that it will run, but one of the feedbacks added that they had some minor graphic problems. However I cannot give you a link to the site as of now so you'll have to do a search yourself.

Edit: now I see it again 3 out of 8 voted it compatible, so never mind what I said earlier, here's the link:

Windows Vista was bad because the reworked a lot of the inner workings of the OS. It led to a lot of hardware and software incompatibles. That and the UAC annoyed a lot of people.

With Windows 8, they didn't really rework anything that matters internally. They just took Windows 7, took away the start menu, and added a UI meant for tablets and the mentally handicapped.

I also just installed windows 8 and civ V works like a charm. had no problems installing steam or g&k, and the game runs fine:goodjob:

Basicly by Win vista 2 I mean by that they had a great operating system then they released a crappy one because they think every should be a tablet.

Plus 1 on this. So far I really like Windows 8, and I think its a lot better than Vista was when it came out.

It works fine for me also on Win 8 Pro. I anticipate some issues but I find that it runs with no issues.
I have yet to try CIV.

As for Win 8 - well the days have long gone where to access the Internet, or BBS etc prior to the Internet, you really needed to be sat in front of a PC. Mobile devices, smart TV's etc are now chomping away at the seemingly shrinking PC market. I'm not sure what MS needed to do differently if it is going to continue to be successful.
Even Intel are having issues now.
