SPECIFICALLY XP HOME FIXES PLEASE

I have Windows XP Home edition 32bit and I'm just now getting the memory allocation error on vanilla CIV IV playing the giant earth map.

I've been reading and reading and reading until I'm :crazyeye: and still not much luck for XP Home 32bit.

I've got dual Xeon 3.02 processors and 4GB ram on a Sata 32Gig hard drive and XP Home on one computer. Quadro 4 900 series card, excellent power supply. Memory very high quality matched sticks 1 GIG a piece X4.

My other unit is a +4200 AMD x64 dual core with the same ram as above and x1900 Radeon something card(can't remember, but its pretty nice and never has any problems.) Same 4GB ram as above. Both computers appear to be hitting the 2Gig barrier as the same exact save file crashes on both every 3-4 turns. Save files are in the 2200 to 2300kb range. Game runs very well, just crashes on saves and autosaves every few turns.

Any and all help is appreciated.

I forgot to mention that the hard drives on the 2nd machine are dual 74gig Raptors set in Raid to read as a single hard drive.

Let's get the obvious question out of the way. Have you applied the 1.74 patch together with the associated DirectX patch?

If I'm not mistaken BTS reduces the memory usage some, thus allows you to play bigger map and more civs per map.

I think you're correct. However the OP specifically mentioned vanilla Civ which is why I asked about the vanilla patch.

Its the gold version and the check for updates thing never says there is an update available. I just checked it again. I know direct X is up to date.

CIV 4 auto update would know if there was an update available, right?

I turned down the graphics some and turned off a few other programs and I'm now getting 10 to 20 turns at least, before the error. This particular game I'm playing is getting enormous and I'm only building cities and let my culture overtake the neighbors. I haven't really begun to build army, navy, or airforce yet.
