Has anyone tried playing C3C using the XP trapdoor available in Windows7 Professional and Ultimate? How did it go??

what is XP trapdraw ? --- I by passed (x86)[or what ever it's call] and went through users\public\... - i remember that i had to at some point select XP-2,,, [hope i helped,, not comp person]

Don't know if C3C works in Windows7 Home. Have been running an XP system and have to get a new computer. Apparently Windows7 Professional and Ultimate have a - back door? - magic portal? - time tunnel? - which allows 7 to run XP programs. Have been told 7 P&U should run C3C but would like to hear from someone who has run it. How did it run? What version of 7 did you use?

I'm running Civ3 (specifically, the Civ 3 Complete version, and I'm playing Conquests) on my laptop running Win7 Pro. It runs fine.

I specifically bought Win7 Pro (rather than home) so that I could run an XP virtual machine if I wanted to. Why would I want to? Well, I still have my Civ2 CD, and that's too old to play on Win7 natively. I'm told it would still work in the virtual machine; just need to try it.

I am running Civ3 Complete with no problems on a laptop with Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1. My problem is that under Windows 7, most of the overlays in the editor for Conquests do not display. The odd thing is that I am not having problems with the editor for Play the World or the basic game. Very odd.

"most of the overlays in the editor for Conquests do not display".....

I find that when building a new map I can't see where I've place goody huts or barbarian camps etc,,, i assume this is what you are referring to? - I haven't tried all of the overlays.

Hope some smart person can fix this problem.

river and starting location both work fine,,,luckily.

- I have Civ2 running on my windows 7... no CD was needed for this. I copied straight over from my 95 comp...lol

I installed Civ3 Complete on Windows 7 with no issues. My saves are a pain to get to though.

My experience. Today went into a good computer service center and as a trial had them load
C3C into Windows7 Professional with the XP add on. No matter what we did the game would not load. I was informed this and/or other problems can occur when adding XP scanners, printers etc.

Now that is interesting. When I looked in the Civ2 Tech support forums here, they talked about needing some serious workarounds to run Civ2 under win7. You just copied the files over from one computer to another, and it just works?

That would be waayyy cool, if I can repeat your success.

Civilization 2 runs fine in my Win7 Basic laptop.

That is precisely the problem that I am having.

@ vorlon_mi

Yes i just copied CIV2 off my old HP laptop... and just pasted onto my newer laptop [windows7 Home Premium] - It works fine.... it's other games that wont like 'Panzer General' that have failed to work :( ,,, - I still have the CIV2 files [folder] on a portable hard drive and I'm sure I can play it from that,,,,[??].

Success - Sort of.
In the spirit of trying everything we tried C3C in Windows7 without using the XP portal. It loaded and works with a few glitches. First: when activating the program the audio works but the vidio does not. Second: I cannot find where 'saves' is located. A plus. The scenario I am using as a test vehicle is a version of TGW Division. Lots of Civilizations, lots of Cities and lots of Units. In XP it takes 6-7 minutes to load. In Windows7 it takes just over 3 minutes (:-). The overlays, including resources are visible.

Load times on Windows 7 are better than XP? That's very interesting. I wonder if the in-between turns load is also faster?

- I'm glad your up and playing :)

-At first I also had "glitches", including the no "saved files" location. I even had games crashing for no reason at all, and at any point of the game. But got it solved. :)

- Are you running it through 'Programme Files (x86)' ???

- I'm interested in the overlays working,,,including 'goody huts' and 'barbarian camps' ??

If you can't find the saves in the regular folder, they are in "C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III". You can't find that folder normally, it's hidden, so type it into your address bar in Windows Explorer.

Another way you can get to it is to go to where you installed it (C:\Program Files (x86)\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III) and under the address bar there is a button that says "Compatability Files". Click on it and it will bring you there.
