wip: CS9

Looking good - no rush :goobjob:

btw- @badKharma: what happened to them panhard and autoblinda textures :) ?

You know I forgot about those I need to move them from my laptop to my desktop I finished the autoblinda one but was having trouble with the panhard one getting the french cammo to line up. On my desktop I have modo so I can now make the texture much easier modo allows me to live paint textures using photoshop.
Bjornlo I'm glad you enjoy modelling, their are alot of models that where never made and it allows you so much more freedom in unit creation.

Varwnos,
I never set out to model a million polys. It takes time. I just take it one piece at a time. I just tend to balloon the poly count trying to get some little detail just right. Then I see if I can trim a little. But, I have animated million plus ploy units, so I know it can be done. Similarly some of the still images I have released have had astronomical poly counts. (think carl sagen numbers).

Badkharma,
I generally prefer to make pre-existing units (from model parts I have on hand from others or myself). But, I just sometimes get it in my head to make "x". And then I will model the whole thing, and not just make a few parts or tweak the mesh a bit. bascically whatever it takes to get the look that I find the most amusing.

So, I had an hour to kill and I goofed around with some of the bits a little... I tried my hand at organic style modeling and made a few tarps.

ps: the motor and radiator will be deleted prior to animation, as they will not be visible at correct scale. But, I might use them in the pedia pics.

Very impressive... you are an inspiration. :)

Winter, I am glad you like it. I am not sure how much of the detail will be visible at less then 100 pixels. But, I thought I'd have them as I feel it addes a better feel to the unit.... Even if the objects ends up being only 1 pixel, at least it will be light (or dark) at the right location. The object is not exact. There are some issues which I would fix but I would have to scrap the whole thing and start over to do it. Side is not angled enough. A few issues with the hood. Nothing major. Nothing I can't live with.
I have started making a Boys .55inch antitank rifle for it. After that I have to make a bren or vickers MG (they came with one or the other). I have made the helmet. I have not worked on uniforms.... planning on adapting something existing for the clothing.

Topgun,
thank you. Very kind of you to say. I wish I could maintain your level of unit production. I do not even manage to release 1 per month.

OdintheKing,
read my tutorial and you might figure it out. It is not that hard. I made most of this in the free version of Truespace (ok, I used TS4.3, but the modeler is identical).

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother...

Side angles, indeed- though I doubt such should be at all visible in the final product at civ3 scale. Besides: It is British. Britain suffered greatly under not having enough large contractors for their military industry. So a vast number of lighter vehicles were actualy assembled in small-to-midsized manufactures rather than in large industrial prodcution lines- leaving a whole lot of differences between manufacturer's deliveries. :) It will be great!!! What colour textures are u going to pick? Could there be 2 versions, i.e. and extra desert fatigues for it?

Yes, I was planning on Forest and desert. Versions. I am toying with (but will probably skip) differentiating the two CS9s. Since I have figured out that the Europe ones originally had dish flash supressors on the Boys rifle and a Vickers MGs while the dessert one had a pancake suppressor and a Bren mg. The problem with the Bren is that at Civ scale it will look like a 7/8th scale copy of the Boys rifle.
I am not going to do camo, as they never had any. They were always painted mostly monochrome. I am wondering if the lic plates and gas can would be enough civ color. I suspect not. Maybe add in the antenna base and /or smoke gun... But, I’m not there yet.

Finished with the Boys AT rifle.

Odin:
you are very welcome. I will be posting the rifle model available for DL within a day. So if someone is quick, they can use it in a unit before I do. All the parts the might move, can move. All the parts that might be removed can be removed.

Stormrage:
Well yes and no. In my time in the USMC, I started as a machine gunner. In fact I was for a while a M2 (50 cal) gunner. The M2 uses a lighter round than this rifle (.55cal vs. 50 cal, plus higher powderload, etc). But, even the M2 can make swiss cheese out of anything this side of a hardened tank. For training we used to cut APCs in half. But, of course any real armor would just ignore the m2, unless the gunner was a real wizard and managed to shoot off the treads or go after the wheels. (both of which can be done). But, this rifle was dropped as an anti-tank weapon before the end of the war. It was replaced by the PIAT, which could damage tanks. But, the Boy's AT remained moderately popular with some because it was such an effective anti-personel weapon. For example, a near miss usually took out or disabled the target from just the rock splinters the thing would send flying.

Badkharma:
Thanks. Not too good at the gooey stuff yet. Been meaning to get into modeling that too. I figure model what is hard for you and you get better.
